USDA Visits Sheboygan To Check Out Seagulls

POSTED: 11:32 am CDT June 21, 2005

Seagulls in Sheboygan have attracted the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

A wildlife specialist visited Sheboygan Tuesday to investigate the growing gull problem near the Washington Square shopping area.

Local business owners said hundreds of the birds are nesting in an empty parking lot, making it a health hazard.

3. If they hadn't paved paradise and put up a parking lot in the first place
the problem wouldn't exist

(sorry, couldn't resist).

Feds say gulls protected

Nuisance flock at Washington Square Mall can’t be killed, federal expert says
By Eric Litke
Sheboygan Press staff

Sheboygan’s infamous flock of gulls may not be relinquishing their claim on a south-side field any time soon.

And a federal official said Tuesday the city can’t resort to lethal measures to remove the 2,000 or so adult gulls in the field near South Business Drive and Washington Avenue.

"Shooting is not going to be an option," said Ben Nelson, a U.S. Department of Agriculture wildlife specialist who inspected the gull zone Tuesday. He said capturing and euthanizing young gulls was not an option, either.

5. Are you sure it isn't for the Johnsonville Brats?
Who knew gulls loved pavement?
(they've crapped all over the beach here in Algoma. Yuk.)

6. This is not a new problem to Sheboygan
Until an outsider told 'em, they thought it was the brat.
