Pot-flavored pops upset lawmakers
Raspberry, butterscotch, sour apple . . . and pot?

Marijuana-flavored lollipops may seem an unlikely product, but sugary treats with weed-inspired flavors such as Purple Haze, Acapulco Gold and Rasta are appearing on the shelves of convenience stores and smoke shops nationwide.

Marketers call them a harmless novelty. Anti-drug advocates say the candies encourage people, particularly teens and young children, to smoke pot.

"This kind of thing is reprehensible," said state Sen. Vincent Fort, an Atlanta lawmaker who has organized demonstrations against the candy. "It's nothing but dope candy, and that's nothing we need to be training our children to do."

since we don't know what other issues these politicians work on and how much time they put into them compared to this one.

See, we just don't much at all from one article in a newspaper. We just like to pretend we do.

But when they actually take the time to organize demonstrations against lollipops they clearly do not have their priorities in order.

48. In the city I live in, many minority, liberal politicians do this sort of
...activism because they see what the abuse of alcohol and drugs are doing to their neighborhoods and they desperately want to try anything to break the cycle occurring in the next generation.

This isn't a liberal/conservative thing necessarily.

50. Unfortunately, you are right about that
We have far too many anti-drug zealots in both parties. This issue is one of those issues that shows that Americans lack a real choice when they go to the polls. They can vote for the guy who wants to throw people in prison for smoking a joint, or they can vote for the guy who wants to execute pot smokers.

I have known of Republicans who have supported legalization, and I have known of Democrats who have supported legalization. But unfortunately those are the exceptions, and the general rule is both parties support draconian prison sentences. Don't they realize that alcohol has done far more damage to our communities than pot ever will?

and I'm not talking about the politicians in the article. I'm talking about politicians in my area.

You're blinded by your own little agenda, to even carry on a salient discussion about an issue. Have fun.

politicians that I referred to. You have the divining skills. Instead of addressing what I brought up (which has directly to do with a similar situation as told in the OP), you recite generic statements about what you assume these specific politicians think.

60. No one claimed to have read the mind of anyone
What I said, and what others have been saying is that these politicians are wasting time going after lollipops when there are real issues that are much more important.

The reality is pot has never killed a single person directly, that has nothing to do with my agenda that is a fact. Yet these politicians are decrying lollipops that supposedly taste like pot, and for what? What possible harm could these lollipops do to anyone besides possibly give them cavities?

I don't pretend to know these politicians inside and out, but any time I see any politician Republican, Democrat, independent, or third party get up on their soap box to talk about the harms of marijuana I shudder. There are so many worse drugs out there, and to put so much effort into fighting a mild drug like marijuana is a waste of time. And don't even get my started on how prison and an arrest record can destroy people's lives a hell of a lot more than a joint can.

14. It is not that it tastes bad...
It is that I don't see how you could possibly make a sugary snack flavored like smoke. I would probably try one if someone offered it to me, but I seriously doubt that it tastes anything like pot.

That is kind of beside the point though. The real issue is why the hell do these politicians care? Don't they have better things to worry about than the flavor of a lollipop?

64. Or worse: Blunt Wrappers!
Yeah, man. You can go to your local convenience store and buy a pack of Blunt Wraps--sheets of flavored wrapper tobacco, just perfect for "rolling your own short-filler cigars."

Most of these "short-filler cigars" are filled with marijuana.

I did a quick search online for this product. Most of the pages about the legal aspects of this product center on the fact that "children can get addicted to tobacco very easily, and since this is a product that comes in fun flavors children will want to smoke homemade cigars made from these so we must restrict sales to those 18 and older." Yeah, right. I found exactly one page that suggests anyone in the law enforcement community knows you can roll big joints with these things.

There is paper, fabric, building materials, and much much more that can be made with hemp. And you are right there is virtually no THC in hemp, so there is no logical reason to oppose it. Being opposed to hemp is kind of like being opposed to corn.

There were candy cigarettes sold at practically every store. The package they came in even looked almost like a real cigarette box. I don't think they are sold anymore, because it was an obvious attempt to market tobacco to children.

This is very different though. A lollipop does not represent marijuana in any way. Just look at all the foods that are cooked in alcohol, which are perfectly legal to serve to children. These politicians are just wasting their time.

61. . . .
well, as to how pot tastes, it really depends on if you're smoking skunkweed (good) or shake (bad= about as likely to getcha high as smoking hay.)

'Twas many, many moons ago . . . .

I like the smell myself but not the effect. Sage, nice strong sweet pungent sage, doesn't really smell LIKe pot, but people who don't know pot will mistake the smell and look at you sideways, and people who used to smoke pot but had to quit don't like it because it makes them wish they had some.
