Does beer go bad?
I've had some since the summer of 2003 - will it still be OK?

1. Good God, don't drink that beer.
Assume a 90-day shelf life, unless it's full of preservatives.

4. Yeah, the preservatives are the thing. We used to have 3 year old beer
all the time on my ships, and it was acceptable. Olympia, for the most part.

3. If it's Bud it should be ok, since it's putrid to start with. Oh, wait,
you said beer.

Canned is probably ok, but light does bad things to beer, so if it is in bottles, I'd be wary.

5. depends what you mean by "bad"
It should produce a buzz and get you drunk.
I say, go for it!
Beer purists might look askance however.

6. I take it you've never had a "skunked" beer.
When you crack it open it will smell like skunk, this happens when sunlight hits your beer (that is why the bottles are tinted so darkly). It's horrible, unless there is nothing else to drink.

7. I had three-year old champagne just before leaving Vancouver.
Edited on Thu Jun-16-05 10:36 PM by tuvor
It was 2000 vintage, and when I received it, I thought it might be worth hanging on to for a while.

I then had to clear things out of the homestead, and also felt like getting a buzz. Two birds, right?

Next morning, I was sicker than I'd been in years.

:puke:

12. Yes.
Some of it starts that way, too. Chances are, a two-year old beer is past its prime.

14. Then there's Zima
I don't think that stuff ever goes bad. I'm still drinking Zima I got two years ago, it's fine. I know, I know, I'm a candy-ass.
