Whoops. Hair color accident. How soon can I dye again?
Jeez, I tried to darken my hair just a touch but the color I choose looks disastrous with my skin. How soon can I re-dye my hair in a shade that is just a tad lighter? Anyone know? Thanks.

3. Call the 800 number on the box
or go to a professional colorist. They can probably help.

4. Is there an 800 #
on the box? They might be able to tell you.

5. If you wash it now you might lighten it up a little
My hairdresser always wants me to wait 48 hours before washing.

Maybe you could add highlights without frying your whole head?

20. Do NOT add highlights -- you'll end up with orange streaks
Go to a pro to get this fixed.

6. Try shampooing it out
Harsh shampoo will help to strip the color until you can find out what you should do.

11. Yes, I've shampooed once and it helped a bit.
The reason I tried to go a little darker in the first place was that my hair tended to lighten up so much within a week or so after dyeing.

17. Try Head and Shoulders. That's some harsh stuff! If you do add
any highlites, just do it around your face. Your hair will thank you and that's probably the only place you need to make the color different right now. Good luck!

19. Use Prell
that's what hairdressers advise. It will strip the color out. Also, I believe it's Clairol that makes Metalex...a really oily conditioner. (beauty supply stores...some drugstores). Soak your hair with that, cover with plastic wrap or a shower camp and let sit overnight. Use a harsh shampoo, like Prell, to remove it.

22. LOL.
I was thinking that Michael Jackson (wonder what he's up to these days? Ya never hear anything about him) knows a thing or two about changing skin tone, but I'd want to go darker, like you say, not lighter, so Michael wouldn't be much help prob.

8. I had a mishap a few months ago.
Let's just say - I had WAAAAY too many highlights and it looked sooo horrible! I re-dyed it that night and nothing happened to me. But then again, I'm no professional.

13. I was really worried about it.
But it didn't and I still seem (mostly) sane. :) I did feel a little burning (nothing bad, just a tingle) towards the end of the second treatment. It went away after it was washed out.

10. My goofball neighbor did hers 4x in one WEEK...
Needless to say she has a REALLY short cut (not elective). Her hair just kept falling out from being damaged.

I heard every 6 weeks is safe to color your hair. Consult a stylist and see if they can do anything.

28. a friend of mine did that too!
her hair was perfect at the end of the week though. She has truly amazing hair. Especially considering that one of the changes was from black to pale pale blonde.

12. the color will wash out a bit
just use your regular shampoo for a couple of days - also if you use a three minute intensive hair conditioner (regular, not for color) it will loosen a lot of the color.

Wear it for a week - then see if you still need to lighten the color.

15. Thanks for the advice, everyone.
I'll shampoo several times and see what it looks like in a couple days and go from there. Plus I'll call the 800-number and see what they say. :hi:

21. Just remember to CONDITION, CONDITION, CONDITION... that makes
all the difference in the world.

Australian 3 minute miracle reconstructor on regular grocery shelves has been the best there is for more than 25 years.

31. I will try that, too.
I've noticed more damage since I've been dyeing my hair and I've been trying conditioners, etc. to see if they help.

Well, my parents both had lots of grey hair in college but I was able to hold out dyeing until I was 35. That was four years ago.

16. I did likewise awhile ago. My stylist at the time
suggested I could wash it once with baking powder or soda to lighten it up but that that's not great for the hair either. Seeing as I can't remember if it was soda or pwdr I guess this is of no value. Sorry.:(

24. baking powder is flour, baking soda and salt
I'm guessing it's baking soda you're thinking of, because I've seen what fun it is to get flour out of hair.

I guess cuz it's gritty it scrubs the hair.

25. Try shampooing with a dish soap.
Not the gentle ecological stuff, Dawn or something like that. A girl I knew in high school had pretty good luck with that after she messed her hair up really good.
