I am just despondent about my job situation. I had one, I lost it in a week due to a "hiring freeze" and I was the one that was let go. I almost wish it were for me being incompitent. I wasn't, but maybe that would make me feel better--like I deserved it.

I can't go on like this. I need a job and I need it to fucking actually last. I am sick of others dropping the ball. It has been two weeks and I have just now allowed myself to be sad about things. I have not left the house in a week, because really, what is the point? If I don't get anything this week, I don't know what I will do. I can't keep on like this. Two headhunting agencies and bupkus. I am so tired of all of this. I keep the phone nearby just in case, but so far, hope for another job is just fading away.

I've been unemployed 8 months now, but just when it seems I'm at the end of everything, things seem to happen "out of the blue" that gives me hope and keeps me going.

Last week it was phone call I didn't expect...an old client looking to get some computer work done. Drove out, made my utilities for the month in a few hours and got to relax instead of worrying.

Just keep searching the job listings and sending resumes...eventually you'll find something you like and it'll be for more than short term. Keep your chin up, you're not alone in this!

I know that is much easier to say than to do.
Believe me, I have been there.

In the late eighties I started working in the title insurance industry in the Washington DC area. I got hired as a title examiner by a regional company in DC . . . which, unbeknown to me, had just been bought out by a national company. After about a year they decided to cut their staff dramatically and . . . I was reorganized out onto the street.

I started working for another regional title insurer that was now owned by a corporation out of Philadelphia that was a subsidiary of a corporation in England. I was an associate counsel dealing with title operations. The guys from Philly came in one Wed. afternoon and fired everybody on the escrow side.

Anyway, you can see where I am going here . . .

I got a job with a top notch national title insure and even apromotion to their regional office. They bought another title company, but laid off attorneys within their own company . . .

I am still feeling the effects emotionally and financially.

6. Stay Busy With Whatever You Can

I was laid off and have been job hunting for over two and a half years now. It gets very frustrating and depressing. I've even been turned down for a part-time job in a thrift store. Truthfully, I must find something soon and I assure you I am not being picky.

I have found that the following things have made my sitution somewhat more bearable:
(1) Keep regular hours and take care of yourself physically - and get your finances in order ASAP;
(2) Maintain a consistent job hunt but don't let it be all consuming - treat it like a job;
(3) Do something productive - clean a drawer or a closet, work in the yard, volunteer to help someone less ofrtunate than yourself;
(4) Maintain healthy relationships and don't allow yourself to become isolated;
(5) Stay mentally active - read, debate, work puzzles, play games, learn something new, don't spend too much time in front of the telly;
(6) Find something that enriches and improves your life - now is a wonderful opportunity to work on past issues, spiritual growth, physical fitness, weight loss, hobbies, musical skills, etc.;
(7) Finally, don't punish yourself or allow anyone else to put you down for something that is not your fault and something which you cannot control.
