I was laid off and have been job hunting for over two and a half years now. It gets very frustrating and depressing. I've even been turned down for a part-time job in a thrift store. Truthfully, I must find something soon and I assure you I am not being picky.
I have found that the following things have made my sitution somewhat more bearable: (1) Keep regular hours and take care of yourself physically - and get your finances in order ASAP; (2) Maintain a consistent job hunt but don't let it be all consuming - treat it like a job; (3) Do something productive - clean a drawer or a closet, work in the yard, volunteer to help someone less ofrtunate than yourself; (4) Maintain healthy relationships and don't allow yourself to become isolated; (5) Stay mentally active - read, debate, work puzzles, play games, learn something new, don't spend too much time in front of the telly; (6) Find something that enriches and improves your life - now is a wonderful opportunity to work on past issues, spiritual growth, physical fitness, weight loss, hobbies, musical skills, etc.; (7) Finally, don't punish yourself or allow anyone else to put you down for something that is not your fault and something which you cannot control.
