28. A truth bomb
Edited on Sat Jun-04-05 03:07 PM by nuxvomica
Some sort of contraption or chemical that permanently prevents all people from lying. There'd be some hurt feelings and probably some fist fights to begin with, but after a while we'd all get used to it. And the neocons and dominionists would probably disappear entirely.

edit: replied to wrong post. :dunce:

33. Not my idea, but Bill Hicks'
"It's only a choice. No effort, no work, no job, no savings, and money. A choice, right now, between fear and love. The eyes of fear want you to put bigger locks on your doors, buy guns, close yourselves off. The eyes of love, instead, see all of us as one. Here's what you can do to change the world, right now, to a better ride. Take all that money that we spend on weapons and defence each year, and instead spend it feeding, clothing and educating the poor of the world, which it would many times over, not one human being excluded, and we could explore space, together, both inner and outer, for ever, in peace."

It seems so damn simple, doesn't it? But I can't foresee us, as a species, ever having the intelligence or courage to do it.

Another Hicks quote comes to mind: The human race is a virus with shoes.

23. Geothermal heat pumps for all!
Still not sure how far down one must drill to get a useful temperature differential, but it would be nice to have one's own backyard power plant.

Go photovoltaic on the roof, and erect a windmill, and stay off the grid for most of the day!

31. Sorry, it's already been done!
A diet consisting of alkaline foods will cure cancer. If you don't have cancer and you eat alkaline foods it will be impossible to get cancer. (But only if you keep eating them!)

27. A solar powered CO2 absorber
Something like a chemical solution which air could be bubbled through using solar electricity, and precipitated as calcium carbonate. This could be put on the land or whatever. Every house could have at least 2 as these machines could be pretty small.
The world would need millions but it might make a difference.

30. I'd open an art farm with about 10 or more free artist borders who would
promise to keep the results of their stay in my in town gallery for a month or so.

If we refocus our national attention to the arts we could transform the world with our creativity and imagination. Less time for militarism.

32.  two books a month for every newborn for 1 year
(but not "commercial" cartoon character/tvshow/ books) -- and then 1 book every 3 months until the age of 7).

or bringing back something like the RIF (Reading is Fundamental) trucks, and going all over the country. I'd love to have "The BookLady" Van and just go all over giving books away, and while I would take other gently read books as trade for newer ones, any child who wanted a book would get one.
