1. Yes, that's normal.
I had two of them last year (about 7 months apart), and no dental coverage.

2. OMG I think it's CHEAP!
I think my husband's was like $3,000 or something -- but he's lucky to have good (Union!) dental ins.

3. Does this thousand dollars include the crown?
If it does, that is almost what I paid.

My rootcanal and crown was about $900.

9. Your dentist is going to yank the roots.
My dentist after using the ten different sizes of little needles to kill the root, then used some kind of liquid to get rid of the root.

I got off lucky.

The rootcanal was painless, not that much pain afterward.

7. A root canal does not usually include the crown
Recommend it be done by Endodontics dentist, who specialize in Root canals. It doesn't hurt to ask for a discount, many of them will allow it, if you can convince them that the price originally quoted will prove to be a hardship.

The cost of my last root canal was $850. and the crown was $500.00. Although I didn't bargain with them, I know many of their patients did and the amounts they reduced varied.....I guess on a case-by-case basis.

5. Yep.
I've been lucky, but my insurance (federal govt) runs about the same, at least last time I checked.

Just a crown was almost 500 when a tooth of mine (even at the time more amalgam than man) finally gave way.
