Saw a trailer for "War of the Worlds". Unsuprisingly looks like total shit
Spielberg - should never be allowed to touch any story that actually has meaning, is intelligent, and is almost sacred in its importance. Nothing above ET for you, you emotion-broadcasting amateur.

Cruise - should never be allowed to "act", or be in any way involved, in any story that is intelligent, has meaning, or is important in any way, to say nothing of a story that is all three. Nothing above Top Gun for you, fuckwipe.

But, on the other hand, these theories might not apply to this movie since I am POSITIVE that Spielberg, perhaps with the help of his illiterate uneducated shitmongering friend Cruise, has rewritten the story to be totally unintelligent, totally unimportant, and totally devoid of any meaning of any significance. So, in that sense, this might very well end up being the perfect piece of shit movie for Spielberg to direct, and for Cruise to "act" in.

The trailer looked positively awful. I was offended already just by those two minutes. I can't wait to see the full abomination in the theater. But yet, all I can say is this: "War of the Worlds is going to suck so bad, and so much, that I will want to kill myself, but then I will remember that, as much as it totally lacked integrity to the books and was utterly devoid of intelligence and meaning, at least Ron Howard didn't direct it."

3. Yet another mean spirited slam ....
Can it really be THAT bad ? .. worth ALL the piss and venom you can muster ? ...

I saw the same trailer, and I thought it looked damned good ... and I have read the book a few times ....

Has anyone forgotten how GREAT Cruise was in Rain Man ? ... A Few Good Men ? ...

I mean .. cmon .... hateful rants do not make a film review, just an opinion ..... an ugly one at that ....

6. Chuckles ...
Um .... yeah ... Ive saw his/her stuff ....

I think it was LAST week that Cruise was slammed, gratuitously, for his acting, even though his performances in Rain Man and AFGM were universally (nearly) recognized as excellent .....

Someone's personal hatred means nothing ....

10. Well, then, if you think it means nothing,
then disregard it.

:P

I can't review a Cruise movie without it degenerating into a hatefilled rant. Sorry.

So we disagree? Who cares. Maybe it won't suck. Maybe you will think it's great, and I won't. Who knows? Who cares?

This is all merely an opinion piece; nothing objective in it at all, so no way to say who's "right" and who isn't.

9. Imagine what Andy Warhol's cellar looked like .....
Not every work of art is a masterpiece ....

I 'disliked' The Terminal, yet I would not wish harm to befall Speilberg simply because he isnt perfect ....

14. How about this little movie for Spielberg?
Edited on Tue May-31-05 09:08 PM by xmas74

Now Schlinder's List is a movie that should be viewed more often.

12. "ALL the piss and venom you can muster"?
Nah, that wasn't ALL.

Those two aren't worth ALL my piss and venom. Cruise, maybe, but Spielberg, at least, does have a considerable oeuvre of real winners under his belt. Not in the last decade, but what the hell, he at least WAS capable at one time.

And what the hell fun is a film review if you can't make a hateful rant if you don't like the movie (or in this case, didn't like the trailer)? A guy's gotta have some fun.

I save the nice words for the movies that I like.

:P

I put out my opinion, like anyone else with an opinion.

Some people believe Al Franken, some believe Cal Thomas.

It's all teaser stuff, right now, if I don't get to see some serious CGI ass kicking I'll be pissed.

17. The original "War of the Worlds" is one of my favorite movies
When I found out that that hack Spielberg, and that no talent pretty boy Cruise, were involved in the remake, I had about the same reaction as you did. I guarantee it will suck big time.

22. most tom cruise movies are worth seeing...
he's a talented attractive personable actor...

that being said...any story would have to be re written to have him be the central character...

so any well known story would have to be altered so he could suck up all the oxygen in the room...it's a tom cruise movie...not war of the worlds...a tom cruise movie...

i will take the wife to go see it...it does look cool...but it really isn't war of the worlds...it's a tom cruise movie...with great special effects...
