Anyone here have a 2005 Mazda 3?
My partner and I are thinking of buying one- we test drove it, liked it a lot, and had planned to do another test drive of both this car and the new Scion Tc. However, my partner's car is rapidly dying, and waiting another 3 weeks until we both have time to go shopping might not be an option.

This being said- we've come across a really really really good deal on a Mazda 3 with everything that we want in a car- with the catch that we have to buy it tonight, as it's the end of a blowout special week.

Anyone have any positive or negative experiences with this model?

Thanks in advance for any input!!

2. Buy American.
Our Union brothers need us to buy American. Nobody should be buying a foreign car (my opinion).

3. most likely the car parts for any company will be manufactured all
over the world. And then probably put together here in the states - to avoid tariffs.

Oh, and welcome to DU.

11. I can support mine. Are you looking for truth
Edited on Tue May-31-05 12:40 PM by kick-ass-bob
Or are you just looking for an "easier target"?

BMW has a plant in SC where they put their cars together - employing American workers, importing parts (like German engines, I assume) and other parts from Canada, etc to be put together.

This way they don't have to worry about the taxes since it is made in America.

8. You mean like an Chevy Avalanche?
Which is made in Mexico by non-union laborers?

Or Mazda Tribute which is union made in the USA?

14. that is a great website...
I may be driving an old gas guzzler that is getting ready to die on me but it *is* American and union made, so that should shave off a few years I'll be spending in purgatory before I can go to liberal heaven

6. "with the catch that we have to buy it tonight"
FYI - that's just a trick to get it sold quicker.

I have no idea about the 3, but I love Mazdas in general. We have a 10 year old one which is going great.

9. I was skeptical about that too...

However, when I checked the Mazda website, it did check out- the Mazda clearance ends May 31st.

I drive a 1999 Mazda 626, and have been extremely happy with her so far- bought her used 3 years ago, and she's been a great little car!

12. Checking my Consumer Reports mag,
Edited on Tue May-31-05 12:40 PM by mahina
The Mazda 3 comes up under "Most Satisfying", 80% would buy again.
Looks really good for ratings, positives: handling, fuel economy, interior quality, turning circle. Negs: road noise, small trunk. Excellent reliability, satisfaction, accident avoidance. good crash protection, priced $18190.

13. The new GM cars, the Cobalt, is suppose to be a very good car.
I will never buy another foreign made car and neither should anybody else that cares about Union jobs in America.

I get really irritated when I go to events/protests/what not and all I see are Saabs, Volvos, and Mazdas being driven by people going there!

22. You know, I felt strongly that way for 20 years of driving.
I never owned an import, wouldn't even consider it, for just that reason. Every car I ever bought in my life. Till the ABS breaks failed on my Blazer in 1993 causing an accident, and Chevrolet said they never had a problem before and nothing was wrong. That was after I found thousands of accidents caused by the exact problem, on the web. Lots of people died. They kept saying there wasn't a problem. I wasn't mad about the problem, every car has something. I was and still am mad about the way they brushed it off for years when the truth was obvious. Finally, years later, they recalled the ABS. My customer loyalty died hard years earlier. I feel so bad about the workers. But my family's safety has to come first for me.

My husband's toyota was made here as well. And, foreign cars just seem to hold up better, at least that has been our experience.

They have no ideas of the benefits they would reap if they would unionize. :(

Guess who wins? The Mazda. Excellent review, which you really should read before buying the car. (Almost makes me want to go buy one.)

33. I test drove a Scion and Mazda 3 five door on the same day
I liked the Mazda much better, drove alot nicer and smoother then the Scion, I ended up buying a minivan but if my kids were grown I would buy the Mazda 3 in a heartbeat.

34. Thanks!
I also tested the Scion and Mazda 3 on the same day. In fact I even drove them within 20 minutes of each other, as the Toyota dealership was right next to a Mazda dealership, and when we finished at the first place, we just walked next door...

I remember the Mazda being smoother, but it's been about a month now, and whil I remember all of the cars that I didn't like, 'cause I definitely knew that they were off the list, these 2 cars blended together. I remember liking both, and remember walking out of the Mazda dealership saying that I could definitely see getting one of these.

35. I test drove the Mazda 3 and liked it very much
It was too small a car for us, though. We also test drove the Mazda 6, which has the same engine as the sport model Mazda 3.

We ended up buying a Chevy Malibu Maxx because it performed better than the Mazda 6, which has lousy low-end torque, off the dead stop. Otherwise, I liked the Mazda 6. We are very happy with the Maxx.

Mazda 3 would be my first choice for the price range you are looking at.
