Anyone here remember "In The News", CBS Saturday mornings?
I've been a newshound from an early age, and I used to love "In The News" on Saturday mornings growing up. It was a little six or seven minute piece about whatever was in the news at the time that might interest kids 7 to about 14 years of age who wanted something more than "The Chan Clan" and toy commercials on television.

Do you remember any of the reports?

The ones I remember most were about the experimental "Gossamer Condor" plane flights, and the advent of the Delorean sports car.

Anybody else remember this?

7. Thanks for the links, krk!
Funny that something like "In The News" should show up on "Jump The Shark".

I liked reading the reminiscences of the spinning globe and the synthesizer music theme.

2. I remember when they profiled Skylab when it was going to fall down.
I can still hear their little theme "song". Great segment, nice way to keep kids informed. But alas, it took away valuable advertising time so away it went.

3. I always wondered why it disappeared. Now I know.
I should have guessed. "Don't inform the kiddies abut important world events. Inform them about TRANSFORMERS! They're robots in disguise!"

6. Is that the narrator? I'd forgotten the name.
But I remember his authoritative baritone voice. Really got your attention.

8. I remember, that's what made me a news hound
I remember Christopher Glenn (who still works at CBS radio, I think), but I don't remember specific stories.

It's one of the things that got me interested in the world.

9. They just don't respect the minds of young kids anymore.
Now the corporate media just wants kids to consume, consume, consume!

10. A kick for the afternoon crowd, and also a comment...
Get any group of ~30-40 year olds together and ask them about the parts of speech, or the Declaration of Independence, etc. That Saturday morning stuff was ON to something. Kids paid attention and learned. They should have expanded it, not killed it. And worse, replaced it with 30-minute-long toy commercials sandwiched back-to-back.

Imagine all that time wasted on non-commercial things like news and education. What were they thinking? :sarcasm:

21. In The News was a great, great show
Christopher Glenn was Mr. Rogers' smarter, more world-traveler-like younger brother to me; I'd love to see those old eipsodes again..
