Anybody else keep fish/aquariums?
I have a 150 gallon stock tank housing a 20 inch longnose gar (hence my handle)

and I have a 75 gallon tank with a spotted gar, black crappie, and a catfish.

1. Did you get the fish from the wild?
Or did you buy them? Those are some unusual fish to have as pets. Catfish and crappie are my favorite fish to catch.

5. I bought two and.....
I bought the Florida spotted gar from a LFS, the same with the channel catfish (kinda strange but I see channel catfish in fish stores all the time)

The longnose gar was wild caught but kept at an aquarium at a state fish hatchery until they decided to overhaul their tanks.

I volunteered to take it and the man gave it to me.

I caught the crappie out of a local lake.

I have kept a number of species of fish including brook trout, smallmouth bass, blue tilapia, rainbow trout, largemouth bass, green sunfish, hybrid sunfish, bluegill sunfish, bullhead catfish, and brown trout, among others.

Most are fish and line caught but some come from hatcheries.

6. I used to... till I ran out of room
I had a little "pond" in my back yard for a while and would put anything in it, guppies, betas, bait fish or any other wild fish I caught while out fishing. I would bring some of the tropical ones indoors over the winter only to toss them back into the pond next spring.

The best story I have though, is about this guy who had converted the old cistern at his house into an aquarium... he had put Plexiglas walls in where the cistern walls met the basement walls, added lights and native fish, that has to be one of the best DIY things I have ever seen!

Just a little 10-gallon tank here with four goldfish. We got started when the kids won some at a school carnival.

9. Just started last Christmas, with the help of a few of the aquariasts here
I have a 125 gallon, with a couple crabs, a bunch of pineapple swordtails, moonlight gouramis, turquoise guoramies, black tetras, head and taillight tetras, a pleco, two kinds of catfish, red tailed sharks, albino sharks, and some other little yellow fish with Mickey Mouse tails the name of which I can't remember.

I love it! I had wanted a tank since I was in junior high almost 30 years ago, and finally had a chance and a space to have one.

So much fun!!!

12. I've a 37 gallon tank with cobalt blue cichlids... here's a pic:

And an action shot!

I've three peacock cichlids as well, but none of them developed their coloring. (that or the cobalt keeps scaring them; he was hardly blue when I first got him... 30 minutes later, WOW.)
