5. Any word of her leaving the show?
I mean prior to tonight. Obviously she's not going to make a recovery.

Interesting to note, in an article I read about Mark Harmon on St. Elsewhere, he said everyone assumed he wanted to leave the show when he was killed off, but he didn't.

7. I think that it took everyone by surprise
but will sure hear more about this in the coming weeks.

I felt just as bad when Mark Harmon was killed on the West Wing a few years ago and many were upset about this

10. Yes, and every time when I hear Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah
I am reminded of that scene.

12. Yes, from USA Today
Why? Creator Donald Bellisario says that Alexander asked out of the physically demanding show, that she decided she didn't want to stay for what will likely be a run of many seasons. "She worked like a trouper to the very end," says Bellisario, who is casting for a foreign-born female character.

Still a shock. I found several message boards about this and everyone is just shocked and in disbelief.

4. A terrorist from previous season
came back with "instructions" to kill Gibbs. Meanwhile he stole a drone to attack navy ships - but failed.

The NCIS group is engaging in gun battle with his group and at some point Kate, who was trained as a Presidential Secret Service is jumping in front of Gibbs and does get a bullet in her bullet proof vest.

And she stands up and they all talk and them... the terrorist shots her in the head. Point blank. Was completely unexpected. Everyone has been talking about the finales of so many popular programs but nothing about NCIS.

Spouse commented that "they kill women" - remembering that episode where Danica McKeller (Winnie from the Wonder Years and the West Wing) was killed, in spite all efforts to watch over her.

Even while switching to House, we were still thinking about Kate. Really senseless, cannot understand why

6. I don't watch the show, but I caught the last ten minutes to see who
was going to be killed off. I had read somewhere that they were going to kill off a main character. I knew immediately who it was going to be because I found her the most interesting character on the show the few times I had caught a few minutes of it while channel surfing.

Figgers. And the way they did it. CRUEL.

8. It *sucked* for them to kill her off that way!
Just so damn gimmicky.

Blech.

All the teasers along the way "who would it be?" and then BLAM at the end like that.

13. I was glad that she'd found a nicer gig (and boss) than Dubya!
(They made it clear, in the pilot episode, that the president she was working for was Bush -- used an impersonator and everything.) And now this happens.
