1. I don't think so
Once feedback is left, it takes an act of Congress to remove it.

2. no
once a rating is placed I understand they are in stone. I think they did that so there wouldn't be volumes of email of folks trying to game the system. I don't beleive there are exceptions made.

5. Just curious.
I am not keen on ebay because the sellers often inflate shipping prices. (what costs under $3 to mail often gets ramped to $5, $6, $10...)

The whole system seems fascist anyway. Rule of law instead of spirit of the law.

No spirit = fascism.

7. On shipping costs
I've sold TONS of things on Ebay--books, DVD's, VHS, clothing, etc.

To mail a DVD costs around $2 Media Mail (within the US).

HOWEVER--I charge $5 to ship a DVD because bubble wrap costs money. Labels cost money. Going to the post office and standing in line costs money.

I charge more for overseas shipping not only because the shipping charges are more than domestic, but I also have to fill out custom forms and go through hoops at the post office (small town...small minds).

My rules for Ebay:

Don't bid if the shipping isn't listed in the auction. If you're curious, email the bidder with approximate shipping/handling charges

If you bid without getting a quote from the bidder, then you're opening yourself up to pay $20 for a $2.00 dvd to be shipped to your house

I sold a book to a woman in Canada once. It was a HUGE book that weighed nearly 3 lbs. I charged $8 for shipping AND handling, and the charges were listed clearly in very large print on the auction page. She won the item and when I sent her invoice for the total auction price + shipping, she refused to pay, saying that I was charging too much for shipping. I filed a complaint against her, she gave me a negative (which was eventually removed after much correspondence to and from Ebay on my part), and the transaction was cancelled. I re-sold the item and when it went to ship, it actually cost me MORE than $8 to ship in the US because of the weight. It would have been about $12 to go to Canada----so either way I would have taken a loss on shipping which is fine now and again, but not something I try to make a habit of.

When you take into account the price of wrapping, bubble wrap, tape, labels, going to the post office, yar yar yar, shipping AND handling prices are rarely as inflated as some people (not necessarily you, but other people) like to think.

6. interesting
I posted a neutral rating for one seller because the item, although perfect, smelled like insence. I bid on another item from that seller much later and my bid was blocked. Not allowed to bid again for that seller.

11. Why would you complain about that scent?
Unless the smell somehow ruined the item in question (foodstuffs, etc.), I wouldn't have said a thing.

Case in point: I purchased some Levis over eBay. Yes, blue jeans. There's only a few styles of trousers that look good on my torso, and I found one on eBay. When they arrived, they smelled a bit like smoke. Did I complain? Not a bit. I slid them on, kicked on some flip-flops for nosing around the house, and was perfectly happy. Left the guy positive feedback, too.

If the item you purchased was broken, torn, soiled, or ruined in some other way, I'd give the seller a chance to make good on the order before leaving neutral or negative feedback. It'll work better for you in the long run.

And one more thing - look for the fine print!! I can't stress that enough. Always make sure you know what you're getting into with the winning bid, shipping and handling, insurance (if required), etc. That's why I have yet to receive a single neutral or negative chit on my feedback rating as of yet. One of these days, I might. I hope not. But I won't turn insomniac if it happens.

10. yes, if you use that arbitration service they have.
usually that's all it is about: you both get your negative feedback wiped out.
i think one of the parties has to pay a fee for it, but yeah, it's very doable if the other party agrees.

12. No, nobody has to pay a fee when negative feedback is
removed...either both people have to agree to it or if the 2nd party doesn't repond within a certain amount of time then the person who requested the feedback be removed gets the benefit of the doubt. I was able to get 4 negatives removed because the person bid on the items with no intention to pay for them. I have bought and sold A LOT on ebay, and while I think its wrong that ebay can charge whatever the hell they want to because they know people will pay it, I think ebay is a great way to make money selling stuff you'd otherwise have to give away and get great deals on stuff you need.
I have to agree with the other ebay seller who posted...I hate it when people complain when they are charged over the actual price of shipping. They have the choice whether or not to bid on an item, and should factor in the shipping cost when placing their bid. I am selling clothing lots at the moment and am charging $2 over the actual price of shipping and I got a rude email from someone accusing me of charging way over the actual cost of shipping and claiming they KNEW that the box could not weigh over a certain amount. Some people just have no clue how much it actually costs to ship things and their ignorance pisses me off. (I always manage to give a friendly reply, though)
IMHO, the person who sold something that smelled like insence did NOT deserve a neutral. I have received items reeking of smoke, but because they did not specify "item comes from a smoke free home" I have no right to give them anything but a positive (as long as everything else was OK.)

13. my bad...i thought the person above me was talking about the
mutual feedback removal ebay gives where the comment is still left but the -1 score is taken away. Yeah, there is a service that charges $20 that takes care of disputes concerning feedback and people who dont get their stuff..
