Bowling - Is it America's new hobby?

Here goes - I am seeing and hearing more about bowling in the last 6 months than I have in the last 20 years. An email came out at work last week asking for a sub for the woman's bowling team. The couple at the barbecue last night had to leave early to go bowling.


30 years ago a bowling alley was somewhere to go to drink and smoke and if you had time...throw the bowling ball. I never did like bowling - ugly shoes.

Could this be the new pastime? Is this replacing nascar?

1. Seems like the old hobby to me. I bowled in a league at age six, almost 40

years ago. :shrug:

Not really, I could care less what everyone else is doing. I have yet to watch a single episode of "Friends", "Everyone Loves Raymond", "American Idol" etc. etc. etc. I figure if I'm doing what everyone else is doing, I'm doing something wrong or stupid. Bowling, huh? :shrug: If that's what floats people's boats........

4. From what I understand, Bowling has been pretty steady

through the years, at least around here. There may have been down times, but with all the special bowling nights..bumper bowling, lights out bowling etc, it seems to keep up the interest. Some even have their own shuttle school bus for the after school bowling leagues.

Maybe it depends on the area..we're NW Ohio. I haven't been bowling for 20+ years, but I know people who work in the business.

5. Bowling in a good league is like a family reunion (a fun one) every week

and ours are vegas Leagues, so we wind up the season there.. I posted this last night.. Who says bowlers are boring??

Bowling has been popular for a looongg time..where have you been!? At least where I live anyway. I like it--its fun! In fact my hub and I are joining a couples league this fall!!! Been bowling for years..hey we have our own balls..and COOL shoes! ha!
