Avoid JVC VCRs!
In my process of digitizing my VHS collection to DVD, I've noticed that when playing the tapes on my JVC VCR, there are random, weird audio and video dropouts.

Yet when I play the same tape on my Sony or Daewoo VCR, the problems are not seen or heard.

JVC makes shit.

And the bloody thing is only 2 months old!!

No real duh there, they also invented VHS...

I can't use sony because the gamma output is slightly too high and overexposes the video. Daewoo is my only choice and it sometimes screws up with hifi playback. :grr:

Fortunately, all the programs I love were originally created in mono so disabling the hifi channel is no great loss... :eyes:

1. I bought a JVC VHS-C camcorder once.....
..... and it wasn't long before the battery pack wouldn't hold a charge. A replacement costs around fifty bucks. BTW the best performing VCR I ever had was a relatively cheap Magnavox.

3. I Guess it Depends on What You Buy it FOR
My JVC VCR was purchased 10 years ago, it runs just fine. But then I'm not planning to do any dubbing with it and have never tried to.

Different manufacturers are reputed for different aspects of the equipment. I bought JVC for tape media because of its mechanisms/dampers. Never had a tape get jammed, or in any way eaten by the machine.

FYI - My back-up VCR is a Sony - and it's had all kinds of playback issues.

Sometimes you just get unlucky, I guess.

5. TVs have fewer motorized components...
I hope!!!

TVs ought to last 15 years or longer...

6. This was the playback unit.
:-(

You're right though, some of this is a matter of luck.

Mind you, the original JVC I bought was DOA. I exchanged it for the model that's yakking on me right now. :eyes:

9. Maybe you need an attenuator?

Maybe you need a teeny 75-ohm attenuator in the video between
the Sony VCR and the computer?
