Can someone be arrested for riding a bicycle while drunk?
There is a fellow who has lost his DL until 2008 dur to multiple DUI's. He now rides his bicycle to work, and everywhere else he needs to go. He still drinks like a fish. I'm just curious. Could he be arrested for RUI?

1. I think they'd choose to call it "public intoxication"
rather than an RUI - but yes.

2. I know you can be arrested for drunk walking, which happened
to a friend of mine. These activities, walking, riding a bike, etc., fall under the category of "drunk in public".

3. I think it varies from state to state, but usually the rules of the road
apply equally to bicycles and motor vehicles.

4. actually, those were my suspicions. Thank all of you for responding.
I hate the thought, but I guess some never learn. Too bad too.

5. I think so,
I read recently that they arrested a man who was driving his riding lawnmower while drunk.

If they're intoxicated, their ability to handle a bike or a rider mower would be impaired imo.

6. I hope he rides that bike to an AA meeting someday... He needs help,
not criminalization.

7. Yes in a heart beat on at least one of two charges
1) Unsafe operation of a vehicle (not necessary to be motorized)
2) Public intoxication

14. Well, FYI, he's in Ga. and if all these other states say yes,
my guess is that Ga does as well.

Thanks for the info.
