Why I like Star Wars
- It's big and brash
- John Williams
- It's deep and then again, it's not
- It plays on the hero complex and shows that the villain complex is just the other side of the same coin
- The mythological aspects are timeless
- Lightsabers
- It's an open book
- It grows, expands and changes
- After almost 30 years, Lucas keeps it a work in progress
- The wingnuts are scared of it
- The fantastic spaceship design
- Time and space aren't limiting factors to the storyline ("It'll take us 40 years to get back to the Alpha quadrant".... Riiiiight)
- I'm much more interested in the ethereal qualities, love, hate, revenge, spiritualism, mysticism, loyalty and redemption

I applaud George Lucas on his vision. HIS vision, all fans need to remember that. He's the creator and this is his story.

When I tell my own story, I hope that I can be at least as half as creative and vibrant.

Joseph Chambers's "The Hero With a Thousand Faces" was THE book that inspired Lucas.
REAL good read

5. My conspiracy theory of Star Wars
Lucas is really letting us see "behind the veil" of what the powers that be are doing. kinda a, "wow thats crazy but it could never happen here" kinda thing, while it really DOES happen here

minus the lightsabers.

6. Lucas and Spielberg have been unfairly maligned
Snobs still blame the two directors for shifting the industry away from character-driven films; and yet, curiously, before '77 even rolled around, the quality of the output of auteurs like Friedkin and Bogdanvich was in sharp decline (only Altman and Scorsese would survive the 70's, and grow as artists).

Yes, I wish we weren't assaulted with all these insipid, bloated summer blockbusters. But "Jaws" and "Star Wars" are fair trade-offs.
