6. Yes they can. They watch for coronal mass ejections. Day or 2 later,

aurora! You can go to: http://www.spaceweather.com They have an email service you can sign up for that will give you a heads up about interesting stuff in the sky. Solar storms, mass ejections that may mess with cell phones, some computers, satilite TV, that sort of thing, AND WHEN TO LOOK OF AURORAS!

They have a phone call service too, but that one is not free. I really love the emails. The remind me about eclipses, when planets are particularly visible, meteor showers. It's cool and it's free

If you get pictures, you can upload and share them. Photo galleries are always interesting.

Another good site, I often keep open in a tab in the evening, is:

Has a 1-10 scale for auroral activity and global map illustration. Muy cool!
