I'm rediscovering the thrill of Vinyl
Vinyl records that is.

I just bought an old Panasonic stereo system complete with a turntable and I'm loving it!! I have about 150+ vinyl records that I collected back when I was a teenager and throughout the years I've held on to those records even though I haven't owned a working stereo in about 10 years. But now, I have a stereo and I'm playing side #3 of Electric Light Orchestra's "Out of the Blue" Side #3 was aptly named 'Concerto for a Rainy Day'. And it sounds wonderful on vinyl even with all the crackling noise

:loveya: vinyl

20. wow, is that from a kit? it's gorgeous!
Right now I have a 1981 Mitsubishi linear tracking vertical turntable, but I don't like it. I've been shoppung for a traditional horizontal one... I like yours!

2. Neat stuff, ennit?
I still have a huge collection of vinyls, and I've had a turntable for most of the past 10 years so I can play them when the mood moves me. Most of what I have on vinyls is not available as either CD or MP3, so the collection effectively doubles my music stash.

Scratches and all, vinyls usually replicate the organic feel of a performance (studio or live) a lot better than its digital counterparts.

Enjoy! :)

My favorite record store has a whole section devoted to vinyl.

4. I've got hundreds of record, from the 50 through the 80s
in fact, a majority of my collection is on vinyl.

In addition, I have three record players, including my uber cool vintage model from the 60's...

And yeah, that's a Nancy Sinatra record on the floor.

5. I had a system like that
Well, it was my parents but when my mom sold the house I asked if I could have it (I use to play Bobby Sherman & Engelbert Humperdinck albums on it) but the only problem - no room in my very small very packed apartment.

But she said she would hold on to it.

Fast forward to 2001 (probably 10 years later), I finally asked for that old stereo system. I had just moved to a larger apartment and had the perfect spot for the system. Turns out a month beforehand they sold the unit at a church bazaar for $5.

Gee mom, could you have asked me if I was still interested before you crushed my heart and sold it

6. I actually bought this one at a flea market last summer
Edited on Sun May-15-05 10:33 AM by Longgrain
for only 15 bucks. I posted a thread about it here quite a while back where someone said they had bought a similar system for something like $75. So I,m guessing I got a good deal on it. :7

12. My parents had one like that!
A big vacuum tube monster in the living room!

Yes, and I remember the Easy Rider soundtrack too. Immortalized the Electric Prunes in a very Catholic song.

13. Mine still works too.
As soon as you plug it in, you can hear the Vacuum tubes warming up. It's quite a nostalgic thrill.

19. That's great! One of my collection is a 1964 Magnavox console stereo
with record player and radio, both in fine working condition. It's gorgeous as just a piece of furniture, but the fact that the guts work too makes it even better.

I bought it at a garage sale in '98 for $25. A retiring couple had had it ever since they moved into their house (same neighborhood I grew up in; developed 1963-65), and it looked as if no one ever touched it. Twenty-five bucks. I still marvel at that.

I have a more modern system I use for playing my LPs.

But it's still fun to spin a few disks on it every now and then.B-)

7. Everybody Loves Raymond had that as subject
where the dad didn't want cds but insisted on his old vinyl records. i know it was acting, but the look on his face when he listened to the oldies even w/ the scratches mirrored the way i feel too.

we kept our stereo system and vinyls, esp. the ones we played for our daughter when she was little since she may want to play them for any children she has.

8. Vinyl is the best!
I have a pretty large collection, 100's of LP's and even more 45's.

I have a newer stereo with a turntable, but prefer my 1959 Telefunken Contessa console hi-fi and my 1959 Blaupunkt Console combination Hi-fi with lighted bar.

I aslo have a 1954 and a 1967 jukebox for the 45's...

Don't let Sony tell you the best way to listen to music. Compact discs? Coasters with a hole in the middle. Great for computer data though.

26. I like my vinyl
I have 1,000 plus vinyl albums, and I listen to some of them once in a while.
I also have a jukebox and hundreds of 45's. I change them out now and then. I like to fire up the jukebox at Christmas time and play some of the Christmas tunes that I have in there. There is something about that sound with the Christmas decorations that makes me feel good.
