We're going back stage at Sesame Street - I am excited!
I know this is stupid but wanted to share. We entered a local contest for free tickets to see Sesame Street live. A couple of days ago we received a congratulations card with 4 free tickets for the show along with 4 free pre-show party passes. This is the day after my son's 5th birthday and I am just so darn excited.

I feel kind of silly since I have been back stage to meet so many stars and yet this kind of has me giddy and excited for my kids. It is cool to win a contest but I know my kids love Sesame Street and to get back stage and meet the characters will be so cool. We are getting our digital camera geared up and taking lots of pix.

Anyway, thanks for letting me share something silly.

2. That's awesome but
he's not going to discover Oscar has somebody's arm up his bum, is he? That would suck.

6. democracyindanger.....
I sure hope they will not discover this. I would think they would warn us if that were the case. I will be sure to check though.

7. I hate to reveal my mushy side
but when it comes to Sesame Street, let the magic last as long as possible.

3. Have fun!
I remember taking my boys to Sesame Street Live when they were small. Don't feel stupid, it gave me a lump in my throat when they came out. Partly it was just the excitement of my dear boys but part of it was me. I don't get why that happens but it happened to me the first time I saw Cinderella's castle at Disney World. Give Elmo a hug for me, K?

8. Muserider......
I will give Elmo a HUGE hug for you.

I don't feel stupid exactly, just a little embarrassed at just how excited I am. We have really cut back on spending because I want to save as much as we can before an inevitable (imo) recession hits. My kids did ask to go to this but tickets to these things cost like you are being legally robbed.

We had decided not to go even though my boys saw the ad on TV and asked to. I did not even realize, until we received the tickets, that it was the day after my youngest's birthday. This is extra special because of that.

I know what you mean about Cinderella's Castle. I have always felt that way and then I was thrilled when I read it was a restaurant. Every time we have gone there we have eaten a meal inside the castle. It is so cool eating there and having the characters come over and greet you. It is truly like being inside a fairy tale.

12. You must report
to us about your kids reactions. I am certain they are going to be spell bound. Everything costs so much these days that it won't be long till most of us can't afford to do anything. I am so happy you were able to score these tickets because I know that look and the hopeful "can we go Mommy?" and how it breaks your heart to say no to them when it is something totally fun for them.

Posts like this and the animal posts just make my day. I smile and know that life is always good, even when it seems bad. Enjoy.

4. Any adult of my generation who doesn't love Jim Henson and his Muppets
has no soul. There's no reason to be embarassed about liking the Muppets; Henson was a visionary, and the Muppets were sophisticated and cutting-edge kids' programming from the beginning. The Muppets always shot straight with kids (even telling the truth about death, when the actor who played Mr. Hooper during the '70s and early '80s died), never condescended, and always instilled a very moral, very PROGRESSIVE message in its content.

I wish I were going to that show myself! (Grover is the greatest!)

11. But even beyond the issues they cover,
the characers are so original that they have become iconic, almost to the point of being archetypal. Imagine being a puppeteer trying to create a new puppet series for children. You'd have to actively try NOT to make your characters like any of the Muppets, otherwise they would start to slip into another character (as in, that one talks and acts just a little too much like Elmo....)

What I've always appreciated is how the writers aim humor at both children AND the adults watching along. I remember once seeing the human and grouch kids playing together, then when it was time to go, the human parents told their kids, "say goodbye!" while the grouches told their children to "say get lost!" Great stuff.

13. That is so very true.
I was old enough to be babysitting when Sesame Street started and I remember thinking wow, just wow. It was astonishing and the message was so good that even as a teen I was totally into it. I also always loved Mr. Rogers so babysitting in the afternoon after school was always fun. Grover is cool.

16. Muse, we had this but also some other cool shows up in Canada.
We had this guy called Mr. Dressup. He had two puppets called Casey and Finnegan. Casey was a boy and Finnegan was a dog. Mr. Dressup had this huge trunk of clothes and it was very cool.

As a teenager I remember Mr. Dressup came to town and my best friend and I stood out in the cold waiting to meet him for like an hour!

The characters from our youth are so wonderful.

5. Man, that will be seedy.
I mean, you've read 'Sesame Street Babylon' right?

Why do you think Oscar is so f*ing grouchy? Heroin addiction. It leads to an iron deficiency, which causes irritancy; grouchiness.

Big Bird? Big because of steroids. Note the high-pitched voice.

'Snuff'-a-lupagus? Watch your back. The key word is 'snuff'.

Whatever you do, leave the kids up front.

10. I'm so jealous
I'm seriously so jealous. I'm 34 with no kids, and I've met my share of famous people, but I would give anything to meet Big Bird. I love Big Bird!

Please share some pix with us, okay?
