The Sci-Fi Channel's remake of Dune.

The original movie sucked-- it assumed everyone watching had read the book a couple dozen times, and it didn't bother trying to fill in any of the little (and a lot of the larger) details.

The remake, however, treated it as a fresh story never seen, and made it into a believable, exciting, gorgeous movie, by virtue of filling in the blanks in a natural manner.

I'd just like to say, I only got it from the hint about it being a television remake of a theatrical release. I've never seen either. :)

I only got this because I have a lot of the Sci-Fi Mystery Science Theater 3000 episodes on tape - recorded off of television, and there were a lot of Dune commercials at that time.
