1. She was glorious.
Personally, I wished Julie Andrews was cast in the movie, as well (and not having to get Marni Nixon to do the singing for Miss Hepburn)

But I agree...Audrey Hepburn was the very epitome of elegance and class. I still miss her.

3. Julie Andrews should have done the part, but whatever, LOL...
So when you see it, keep that in mind! :)

I think Julie had done it in the theater...Hollywood's infinite wisdom resulted in Audrey with a dubbed singing voice.

5. Although I agree
It would've been nice for Julie to done Eliza.... if she had done so... she might of not of been Mary Poppins (Which she won an award for if I remember). . . and being a child hood favorite of mine... I hate the thought of that :(.

I just read your and terrya's posts on it... I didn't realize that it was just a scheduling thing.

Ah well.

7. She played Eliza Doolittle on Broadway.
Rex Harrison played Professor Henry Higgins both on stage and the film.

Yes...Julie Andrews should have been in the film. She had done Mary Poppins around the same time...it wasn't a question or who would do better at the box office.

8. I was so confused by that--WTF kind of ending is that?
I was like...uh....you realize you're looking at Audrey Hepburn...and how could I feel good about her liking such an unrepetant jerk?

Haven't watched it since.

9. And Arsenic and Old Lace is next
*sigh*

It's a beautiful day in Los Angeles and I am addicted to old films.

12. With a very, very young Jeremy Brett as Freddie Eynsford Hill....
Edited on Sat May-14-05 07:08 PM by Bridget Burke
(spelling?) I believe his voice was dubbed as well.

Audrey Hepburn wanted to sing "All I Want" by herself. The scene with her version was shown in a TMC special after the restored My Fair Lady was released. She sang it well--sweet & touching--although not as slickly as Marni Nixon. And Rex Harrison couldn't sing his way out of a paper bag, but it didn't matter. Oh, well.

The film has lovely art direction--costumes, settings, etc. And making a musical out of the Shaw play was quite audacious. A slightly happy ending was tacked on--but the spirit remained.

Edited to add: Frank Capra directed Arsenic & Old Lace.
