Poll question: Better version of Proud Mary.....
What version of Proud Mary do you like the best?

Ike and Tina or CCR's?

Simple question...let's keep the answers simple as well. ;)

1. I think Ike and Tina are generally better, but in this case CCR wins

2. Ahem, Tina's name needs to be first.....
Ike was a talentless bitch.

8. No he was not
He was a drugged-out abusive SOB and Tina Turner was a hell of a singer who made him a star but he most certainly was not talentless.

12. met Ike once

when i was a bouncer on the riverfront in St. Lou. he was quiet & respectful, as was his bodyguard; but this way way past when Tina left him, and he'd done some serious jailtime in between.

still had primo 'caine, though.

his mistreatment of Tina was dead-wrong, o/c. domestic abuse is VERY ugly.

can't vote: apples/oranges. both versions are haunting.

14. You need to do some research on Ike's history as an instrumentalist...
producer, and A&R man.
His contributions to American popular music far outweigh those of Tina

5. CCR
Just 'cause I love pretty much all of their stuff.

Ike and Tina really reinvented the song and did a great version. I love the intro and always go around saying it: "We nevah, evah do anything NICE.... and easy!"

6. Man that's a tough one
CCR's has a good bluesy flow to it which really paints a picture of the time and place.

But the raucus energy from that musical sucker punch in the Ike & Tina version is pure pedal-to-the-metal rock & roll.

9. I think it is a very dumb song but still prefer CCR
I like just about everything else by CCR but Proud Mary just does not work for me on any level.

A song about people helpin' people :) and gettin' free of workin' for the man.

I kinda dig it :)

13. I don't know it just never clicked
And I like Me and You and a Dog named Boo by Lobo I think it was.

I guess my age was just wrong. I was about 7 when it came out. A few years later, when I found out Proud Mary was a boat, it just didn't work for me.

Plus I really don't like the rhthym of it.

Confession time, I am tuned much, much more into the music than the words. Have always been that way. Probably why I like instrumentals so much. :-)

But other than the fact it was about a boat I didn't have a clue that it was about what you say it was about.
