At least mine is anyway. It insists on waking me up with nightmares when it knows damn good and well that I need a good night's sleep to be at my best for work and class the next day. It's done that twice this week.
A couple of nights ago I wake up screaming (scared the hell outta my girlfriend) because I had to fix the coffin of my exhumed grandfather--who was still in the damned box. Everyone in the dream was all over my case about getting it done; I was doing my best, but every time I'd try to fix one piece something else would break off--including him. Then someone thought it would be fun to have the coffin and body come crashing out of closet when I opened the door; that's when I woke up.
Then last night I went to this small farm to help the guy there out with some electrical work, and it turns out it was a Christian cult and I was trapped. There was no cell phone service and they had disabled my car. I've been up since 3:30.
the common theme is that you are trying to fix something and it's not making the situation better.
your brain is trying to make sense of the things going on in your life and dreams/nightmares are expressions of its attempts to put your day-to-day goings-on into their proper file.
sounds like you're having a bit of a challenge.
without knowing what's going on in your life, i can't hazard much of a guess, but i'd offer that perhaps you're trying to fix something when what is called for is acceptance of the fact that the situation is either not fixable or not your problem to fix.
perhaps your girlfriend is facing a challenge and you need to support her attempts to solve it rather than to try to solve it yourself?
