this just sucks.

A Dell laptop...

I wanted to buy blue, but could find nothing that we could afford.

3. Yes...
I just needed a small laptop for travel and school, and that was the best I could get for the money--

I hate sending money to Repubs!

6. Geez, I'd rather chip in for a better blue laptop for you.
Dell's are notorious for poor quality, so you may find yourself replacing the Dell sooner than you'd like, as well.

8. I am typing this on a 5 year old Dell
I have never had to call tech support in those 5 years.

I understand what you are saying, however, I don't download, burn CD's, or do very much of anything except very simple word processing, checking Yahoo mail, and reading DU. That might be why I have always had luck with computers.

I don't ask much of them.

10. I don't do play with mine, either.
I dread the day blm child decides she wants to use the computer to play games.

9. Don't beat yourself up over it.
Dell makes damn good computers (as far as PCs are concerned). My best friends are Republican (I pray for them daily). If the price of getting good PCs means giving money to guy who happens to be a Bush voter, then so be it.

11. Yeah we have two of them BUT I just purchased one from
http://visioncomputers.com/DYNAMIC/index.asp?CartId={C9E30533-155F-46DD-87EC-4AC3D962CD9D}

I bought the "radio special" for a graduation gift. Heard about it on Al Frankens show.
I couldn't bear to do Dell again.

13. a Mac Mini is $499

http://www.apple.com/macmini/

You'd need a monitor if you don't already have one.

15. But is it a laptop?
Looks like an effete hotplate.

Besides, after cost of accessories that normal people would accept as default these days (it's amazing; Apple originally sold the Mac sans keyboard, ugh...), your $499 wonder becomes $800.
