1. Congrats on your new baby!
Any names you're thinking of?
I miss having birds.

5. There are several on the list
Turbine seems to be at the top because of a noise he likes to make, but no decisions have been made yet. My nine year old doesn't understand why we can't name him Cocky...he's a Cockatiel after all!

10. Oh, he's lovely!
Looks so much like my old birdie. I had a female cockatiel for 11 years. Of course, being a female, she didn't have such an impressive pompadour.

Cockatiels are very strong fliers, so if you don't want him to fly, clip only one of his wings... with both wings clipped they can still fly pretty damn good, but just get tired from it more easily. Clipping only one throws them off balance, and they can't get too far that way.

If the early morning screeching gets to you, put him in front of a mirror. My bird would be highly entertained for hours and hours in front of a mirror. Covering the cage never did anything to settle mine down.

They like to play in water, too. My birdie used to come in the shower with me sometimes or I'd fill up the bathroom sink and let her play in it for awhile.

Have you got your official "Poop Shirt" yet? ;)

12. I love him to death!
One wing was clipped by the pet store, but it's mostly grown back. He flies well, but has yet to figure out the landing part. If he doesn't get it down quick, we'll clip again to keep him from hurting himself.

When he wants out of the cage, he paces in the bottom, squawking his head off. I'm having to train my other half not to take him out when he does this, spoiling him is BAD!

He has a bird bath in his cage, but has only been in it once, and that was by accident...We put warm water in a spray bottle and mist him every couple of days, and he loves that.

As for the poop shirt, LOL! He nailed my DU shirt the other day, but when I washed it, all was well!

21. Turbine-a pretty cool name!
I'm glad you have the spray bottle. My birds used to love that.
I had budgies and doves. When I'd spray them, they'd spread their wings out and fluff their feathers.
Let us know when you decide on a name.

23. He likes to sit on my finger and bend way over...
spreading out his wings for balance...it's cool to see. We wanted to get pics of that, but of course, he wasn't playing the balance game when we had the camera out!

Will you name him or wait for him to "tell" you his name?

My mother always said her birds "told" them their names. She'd wait a few days until something came to her.

As soon as the male shows up, hineys go in the air. Little hussies! This cage was five feet long and three feet high.

35. LOL! They're pretty little things...
Keets are the smallest bird I ever bred, though. I especially loved the lutino and albino babies. We'd hand feed them some so they'd be especially loving. They made amazing pets.

42. Ouch! I've always been rather lucky at breeding exotics...
The sheer number of birds we had may have been a positive influence on that, with them being flock birds.

25. The cats are not amused
The finches were in a huge cage that sat on the floor. Scribbles would sleep all stretched out, right in front of it. This guy is in a hanging cage, and the cats are put up when he comes out, so they're very intrigued.

36. I just worry
That he might stop making that noise when he's older. It's kind of that baby bird "feed me" noise. Then the name would make no sense.

Cats and birds can live in the same house! We've done it for years. Just have to make sure that the kitties can't get to the birds!
