Only 90 miles on I-94 separate the 2. ANYone who's made that drive (any EVERYone in metro Milwaukee/Chicago area has) has seen that sign and giggled every time. I've personally made that drive literally hundreds of times.

Hee..

20. Actually, several places
I went to seminary at Duke (Durham), then served in the Western NC conference - in Eden, Asheboro, Greensboro, and Dobson (ugh). Mostly around the Triad area (Winston-Salem, Greensboro, High Point). I also had summer placement in Waynesboro (in the mountains) and East Bend. (I sent a postcard to my cousin in West Bend when I was there.)

Quick response - you must be on Cable or DSL. :)

23. Were you there long?
Did you enjoy it there? (no Bears fans, I bet - hee)

My BF is in Hillsborough.... Speaking of Duke, here's a pic of us at Duke Gardens in March (that's DU's short bus president):

It's so pretty there! I have only been to Durham/Chapel Hill and Southern Pines. I was very impressed with both. I will be down there again in a few weeks. I can't wait to see the gardens in full bloom... cripes, that's gotta be gorgeous!!

24. The gardens!!
Yes, they're absolutely gorgeous in the spring - which always seemed to coincide with term papers and finals. Good place to study. ;)

Hillsborough? Does he work there? The whole area is pretty upscale, and when I was there (1991-95), it was growing vociferously.

The rest of NC is beautiful, too. And for the most part, the people were nice. Except the church people who didn't want "a woman preacher." That's one of the reasons I came back home. Around here, nobody CARES if I'm female - they just want a good pastor. :)

12. Richard Ira Bong

Richard Ira Bong, who would become America's "Ace of Aces," was born on September 24, 1920, the son of a Swedish immigrant. He grew up on a farm near the small town of Poplar, Wisconsin.

17. What a pilot.
Edited on Wed May-04-05 10:16 PM by JonathanChance
They sent him stateside because they thought it would be bad for morale if he got shot down. He ended up dying shortly after coming back to the States when the P-80 Shooting Star the was test flying crashed.

it was supposed to be a World War II air force base but um...i'm not exactly sure why they abandoned the project

25. Exit 340. Wisconsin's highest point.
I knew right away what you were talking about.

First thing I thought when I read "Bong Recreation Area" was Exit 340.

Everyone in NE Illinios or SE Wisconsin knows about that.

Still cracks me up, every time I go to Milwaukee.
