Spurrier Considering Re-Signing Wuerffel

By Mark Maske
Washington Post Staff Writer
Thursday, October 23, 2003; 1:50 PM

The Washington Redskins are considering re-signing quarterback Danny Wuerffel, Coach Steve Spurrier said today.

"We'll see if that's a possibility or not," Spurrier said today at Redskins Park following his team's final practice of its bye week. "I don't know if it's going to happen or not, but it could. It could or it could not. It's as simple as that."

Whooooo! THe season is saved!!!! :eyes:

1. Ok who called this
:hi: look at my post in your thread about Johnson getting cut Cush. I called this thing like I had super powers. I called it perfect heh. Sorry for bragging but I knew Spurrier would go after Wuerfel yet again.

3. For what?!?!
I'm no Redskins fan, but if I were, I'd be wondering why the ol' ballcoach insists on keeping these sucky ex-Gators around. They stink!

Does Spurrier think Weurffel is any better than Rob Johnson?

Ye Gods!

6. Because they know THE SYSTEM
Edited on Thu Oct-23-03 02:31 PM by underpants
and THE SYSTEM is greater than anyone player don't ya know. THE SYSTEM was devised by the ol'ballcoach and that makes him the smartest man ever to step over the yardage chains. THE SYSTEM can work with anyone at any level don't ya know.

Actually Spurrier did win an ACC title while at............gulp...........Duke.

8. Yeah, but Fla. St. wasn't in the league then.
:7

System, my ass...if you don't have the arm strength (and Wuerffel doesn't) you won't last long in the NFL.

Oh, and the trading deadline has passed too - free agent scrap heap is all there is.

I'm telling ya, Elvis Grbac has no job...Danny Snyder can cough up some dough for him. LOL

20. With that much talent he must be a real a-hole for no one to sign him
That was what was written between the lines everytime he left somewhere. He is apparently such a jerk, teams would rather have less talent and less hassle.

10. uh, yes, weurffel is a big step up from rob johnson
after watching him play for the skins last year, i would say weurffel is rather robotic and stiff, has an ok arm if you don't want a 15-yd out pattern, makes good decisons, play to his limited strengths and is a more than adequate back-up.

not sure why rob johnson even has a pro-contract.

13. Rob has that QB look to him...
...too bad he doesn't have the QB brain or QB legs...

Wuerrfel as a stop-gap isn't horrible, I guess, but corners are going to be sitting on those outs and hitches...my suggestion, have Danny heave it DEEP on the first play, that'll get 'em thinking.

Maybe this is what the tree trunk virgin Mary in Jersey is trying to tell us. I think I will give up all my wordly possessions and follow Wuerfel.

Could be worse, at least Danny never gave a big ass headubtt to a cement wall (that was thinly padded) like Gus Frerotte.

Him? Yeah, the Redskins have no need of a capable backup like Frerotte at all. :D

He's close to the game too, he's one of the radio announcers for the Texans.

Might as well bring in ALL the Heisman quarterbacks that sucked as pros! Hell, maybe Charlie Ward wants to leave the Knicks...

Edited on Thu Oct-23-03 03:20 PM by underpants
Especially with the pounding Ramsey has been taking. If he gets hurt this week there is no way Hasselbeck could really be ready to step in.

25. It seems several teams are doing that.
The Saints have been juggling our third guy in and out of the game roster all season. The statistics are there if you want to rationalize it, but I certainly wouldn't do it if your #1 is beat up.

That's just silly.

27. Every team should keep a 3rd quarterback.
The "emergency QB" doesn't count against the 46-man roster for games. Not keeping a 3rd QB seems ill-adivsed.

Edited on Thu Oct-23-03 03:57 PM by ronzoNOLA
Mitch Berger. I guess he could hand the ball off to Deuce if he had to. Guess that's why they keep bouncing the dynamic J.T. O'sullivan in and out of the roster.

You can have a third QB sitting around and he doesn't count against the game roster? You're kidding.

Chad Pennington was the emergency QB for the Jets last week.

37. well, wait...
Why would anyone have 3 QBs on their game roster? Bear with me, I'm trying to understand... according to our local radio pundit, coach Haslett made a ballsy move dropping our #3 to give the roster spot to a defensive player. He said coach wasn't sweating too much because our punter played QB for a season in college or something... he could step in if Brooks and Bouman were hurt.
