Confess!!! What phobias do you have
Come on, we all have things that either we're afraid of or that creeps the hell out of us. Even me and heck, I'm a gal who doesn't even blink an eye if she sees a spider, bug or snake.

However, I do suffer from a few phobias like

Electrophobia: I get really really weird during electrical storms to the point that I have to unplug everything I can in my house when bad ones come through. Even then, until the storm is overwith I'm pretty much a nug job

Claustrophobia: I have some Claustrophobia but only in certain aspects mainly in elevators especially when they are crowded.

Demophobia: Yes, I have a fear that has demo in and no, it isn't a fear of democracy or democrats (both which I love). Demophobia is just a fear of crowds and sort of an off shoot of the Claustrophobia. If I'm in a really crowded room, I start to get paranoid about silly things like how the hell will I get out if a fire starts. Oddly enough, alcohol seems to help solve this problem.

None of my fears are debilitating - just a sense of urgency when in a situation where I feel somewhat hopeless.

What are your fears? Not sure of the name - check out the list:

1. Feet.
I am scared to death of feet. No one has seen my feet unless they take my socks off while holding me down. I cant stand other peoples feet either.. they're all ugly and scary. I get teased CONSTANTLY about how I cant stand feet. If hubby catches me getting out of the shower before I can get my socks on he'll point at my feet and go FEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEET! I SEE YOUR FEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEET! Which sends me into a frenzy and I find the closest thing to cover my feet with.

I'm also scared of spiders.. I will run around like mad if I see one. Last week my son found one crawling on the ceiling and I took out my central vac hose and sucked it up from a good 6' away. I even have a bleach stain going down my basement stairs because I saw one and whipped out the Clorox clean up and sprayed it down.

That stuff truly grosses me out. The sound it makes when it's touched makes me cringe and run.

Hows that for a weird one?

I don't like that sound either. I have always hated how that popcorn version of it sticks to you any way it can. It's like it's charged up and ready to annoy. I wouldn't say it's a fear for me, just annoying.

3. People and
spiders. I fear people because I never know what to expect. With most animals, I can pretty much make friends a lot easier. People are hard to gauge for me. I tend to have to talk myself into leaving the house often times, honestly. I wish I was one of those extroverted people who could make friends with anyone any time. I'd go with it.

For now, I look over my shoulders and try not to put off any scent (like I try not to allow anyone to smell fear on me) that will cause people to encircle me. I know this sounds crazy, but I'm in a red state. So you can figure out that I'm surrounded by people who tend to agree with Bush & Co. They are truly scary people. :scared:

Her room was next to mine, and every night between the ages of about 14 and 18 just as I was falling asleep she would knock on my door....

I'm sure that my brother-in-law suffers from a similar problem now.

Snakes creep me out, even baby ones.

I'm ok when I'm high up like in an airplane or the top floor of a building, but if there's only a railing or no enclosure I get absolutely freaked out! Even if I watch a movie and someone is standing on a rooftop my stomach just rolls until they get down.

a 40' drop gives me the willies, bad vertigo. Driving narrow mountain roads is very unpleasant. A visit to a rainforest canopy walk was very challenging, 157' up in the trees on cables and ladders! But I had not traveled all that way to miss such a thing and the Spangled Cotinga in the treetops was worth it despite the gangs of biting wasps/flies and a hyper-extended knee!

42. I've got two phobias
1. Acrophobia, or fear of heights. I get this strange tingling sensation and some dizziness when I'm too close to the edge of a very high place.

2. A variation on the needle phobia. I'm not afraid of needles per se, but I am afraid of having to give blood. This stems from having very thin veins which makes it difficult for medical professionals to take a blood sample from me. This usually leads to them poking both arms several times, then the backs of both hands (which HURTS like you wouldn't believe), and sometimes even the tops of my feet to try to get a good vein. I'm getting jittery just thinking about it!
:scared:

But my favorite phobia from the link is Hippopotomonstrosesquippedaliophobia, or the fear of long words. :7

57. Interesting list
I have a major case of entomophobia--fear of insects. Long time fear that can incapacitate me if the circumstances are such that I'm surrounded by insects. On the obverse side of that, I like dragonflies and butterflies.

I suffer from an unreasonable fear of being buried alive. Evidently it's an established fear called Taphophobia. I don't think this could incapacitate me, simply because it's unlikely to ever occur.

Mild claustrophobia, and some healthy acrophobia (heights) which doesn't prevent me from enjoying life for the most part, but to be cautious when necessary.

The fear of bugs, though, is the worst. If someone had a bug close by and was threatening (joking) to throw it on me, I would freak like crazy. I shiver just thinking about it.

71. Yeah
that's me. I think part of it is the claustrophobia, because when I've seen movies with people getting buried alive, I get really nauseous and start thinking it could be me. *shivers*

This is an interesting note, though; in the past, before they started to prepare a corpse for burial with removal of blood and embalming, they used to bury people without an autopsy, and on some occasions, the people were in deep comas, and not dead. They'd wake up in the coffins and find they were buried alive. After a few of these incidents, the cemeteries used to put a bell on the graves that could be activated from inside the coffins. So if they buried someone who had been still alive, they could ring the bell and be dug up.

Another interesting one is that in Haiti, which has a lot of people who practice voodoo (which is a recognized religion as well), they supposedly have a drug which can induce a death-like state, and thus someone appears dead, in full rigor mortis. When a person is poisoned with that drug, they are often buried alive as well, and will find themselves in the same predicament as those in times past. However, this is where the belief in zombies came about--someone who was supposedly dead, rising from the grave.

62. I am scared to death of heights, I'm a tad claustiphobic, and totally
pyrophobic. I must check and recheck the stove, the electrical cords...the whole gambit every night before bed.

I ain't afraid of no Eagles though. :)

64. Demophobia.
Nice to know it has a name.

I'm not afraid of crowds per se, but I'm afraid of being in rooms that are TOO CROWDED for the size of the room. I get very panicky, especially if I am far away from an exit.

I also hate flying. I wouldn't say I have a flying phobia, but I will avoid flying if there's another way to get where I want to be.

67. I get the same exact way...
...I was at a Dean Rally about a month ago at this restaurant and I was starting to feel a little freaky because not only was the room overcrowded (Hey, it was Howard Dean) but there was like this massive jam to get out because of how the bar was set narrowing the way out.

I stand there and all I can think is "Where's my closest fire exit when this place goes up in smoke"

68. dismemberment
is really horrifying to me. I assume there's a phobia name for that but don't know what it is. Unlike most phobias, I think there's a pretty good reason to fear that, i.e., it's not an 'irrational' fear, so maybe it isn't actual a phobia.

69. Buffophobia
I fear becoming buff, so I sit in front of the computer most of the day and eat ice cream.

72. Heights and tornadoes
Heights because I can imagine falling (I fell off a cliff once)and hate thought of hitting the pavement.

For some reason tornadoes flip me out, I wouldn't live in the Midwest for pretty much that reason alone.

74. I have agoraphobia...
and have had it for over 15 years now. Within the agoraphobia I have fears around circumstances in which I am unable to leave prompty. As in being stuck in an elevator or on a train, stuck in freeway traffic that is at a dead stop, stuck in traffic on a bridge -- any situation in which I cannot say, "I'm outta here right now!"

I also have problems being away from my "safe" areas. I have ever been homebound like some, but I am very nervous about being in places away from the greater Bay Area/Lake Tahoe.

I do have one full on phobia that no amount of cognitive behavorial therapy has been able to fix -- planes. I cannot stand flying because it is the ultimate you're-not-going-anywhere-for-the-whole-flight experience. It takes 3 mgs of Xanax to get me onboard. The stuff makes me so happy I don't mind if we end up a fireball in the sky. :)
