2. BoyScout camp (weekend jamborie)
Its also the weekend that I figured out that not believing in god was radically different from most of the kids around me.

3. Boy Scout camp for a week every summer for four years
There was always that kid who cried toward the end of the week because he was homesick. The food was horrid.

6. Day camp a million years ago...
I was maybe ten or twelve.

The son of one of the owners was a camper there the same summer.

He was a nasty little bastard, always breaking camp rules, getting away with it, and waving it in our faces... he had the makings of a young "Dubya" without a doubt.

One day, another camper who didn't care who this kid was or who his father was either, smacked the shit out of him.

The applause from the other campers was deafening.

Heh.

8. I went to several camps...
Science camp, TAG camp, music camp, acting camp. I got a lot of camp scholarships. Seems like my folks just shipped me off in mid-June and I didn't come back until almost Labor Day. It was pretty cool, actually.

19. I played trombone in the jazz ensemble one year
I wasn't very good...in fact, I was pretty clueless! Violin was, and still is, my main instrument. We were probably in the orchestra together.

You know, Chester Petranek passed away a couple of years ago...
He was great at getting kids interested and involved in the arts. :hi:

It just goes to show that conductors do a lot of aerobic exercising....

He indeed was a good and great teacher.

10. Lots of camps, I loved getting away
I went to Blue Bird/CFG day camp in elementary school.

I went to Girl Scout camp for 2 weeks in between 5th and 6th grades. It was a lot of fun, too, running around in the woods like dirty little maniacs for two weeks while supervised by a bunch of college students.

Our school had a 6th grade camp program for a week, at a nice camp near the Silver Lake sand dunes on Lake Michigan. It was educational, allegedly. It was fun.

I went to 2 different music camps-twice to Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp (I got food poisoning there the second time) and once to the All State program at Interlochen (through UM).

The last camp I went to was the luxury camp in Colorado, between my junior and senior years of high school. It was Young Life's Frontier Ranch and it was awesome. We rode horses, went rapelling, walked on a "ropes course", and went mountain climbing. They had waiters and waitresses in the dining hall, and a hot-spring fed pool. We also went by bus through Yellowstone and Grand Teton parks on the way out, which was fun, too. I was into the evangelical thing at the time, so I enjoyed the sing-alongs and Bible study parts of it all.

20. 4th grade camp
It was tradition at the school I went to. It was one of the things to look forward to as you advanced through the grades. I can remember being the envious 3rd grader watching them pull out on the bus. It was during the school year, so we got to miss some school days. My 4th grade teacher was the one who started it. It was a lot of fun; I remember it like it was yesterday. I wonder if they still do that?

usually went home about 2 pm or 3 pm.

Now during 6th grade, my grade did go to an actual camp for a day or 2. Think of it as a sort of retreat.

38. Lessee--
Day camp during most of elementary school -- park district, then one sponsored by my synagogue.

Jewish camp, overnight for 3-4 weeks or so, before 6th grade.

After that I began attending Banner Day Cult Camp, as a "tween" and then as a counselor in training, finally as a junior counselor.

I also attended a two-week arts camp/school (I was in their creative-writing track), summer before my senior year in high school.
