Watching "Jesus Christ Superstar" on DVD and it kicks ass
Can I say "kicks ass" or will I go to H. E. double hockey-sticks?

1. Your watching JCS. Your in trouble already
Not exactly the most Jesus friendly musical out there. Judas is the good guy in that thing you know.

5. The title song is one of my faves
VOICE OF JUDAS

Every time I look at you I don't understand
Why you let the things you did get so out of hand.
You'd have managed better if you'd had it planned.
Why'd you choose such a backward time in such a strange land?
If you'd come today you could have reached a whole nation.
Israel in 4 BC had no mass communication.
Don't you get me wrong.
I only want to know.

CHOIR

Jesus Christ, Jesus Christ,
Who are you? What have you sacrificed?
Jesus Christ Superstar,
Do you think you're what they say you are?

VOICE OF JUDAS

Tell me what you think about your friends at the top.
Who'd you think besides yourself's the pick of the crop?
Buddha, was he where it's at? Is he where you are?
Could Mohammed move a mountain, or was that just PR?
Did you mean to die like that? Was that a mistake, or
Did you know your messy death would be a record breaker?
Don't you get me wrong.
I only want to know.

CHOIR

Jesus Christ, Jesus Christ,
Who are you? What have you sacrificed?
Jesus Christ Superstar,
Do you think you're what they say you are?
(Repeat many times)

6. Well it shows that..
Jesus became a superstar, and Judas thought that he was selling out. Jesus was risking everything he preached by becoming a "star". So who was right? If it wasn't for Judas, there would be no Christianity.

7. In writing we call it a plot device
In reality we call it oddly convenient.

9. True
I am an atheist. I also am not convinced the man Jesus existed. I am open to the possibility but I am also aware of alternate theories.

12. Not sure what that would accomplish
There are a lot of works out there about amazing people and not all of them existed.

13. Well, I believe Jesus existed
I'm not a Christian, but I believe he existed. There were many teachers throughout the history of man, and he was one in my opinion.
There have been many "pop stars" that have lived thru the centuries, and many of them were real and still influence us today in some sort of way. If a person is an Atheist or not, it is hard to deny that the teachings of Jesus (real or not) were only for the good of mankind as a whole, and not as it has been twisted by the "Christians" of the modern world...no?

16. Oh the teachings attributed to Jesus are certainly very valuable
Some very fine ideals in there. I make no claims that the possible man Jesus or the teachings attributed to him should be rejected. I honestly wish more would get them rather than using particular quotes to demonize individuals or groups. We could use a bit more of the Golden rule in this world IMO.

18. I agree
The teachings, if attributed, can then be, for all intents and purposes given to a Jesus. If attributed, then he was real to an extent. Hell, I will probably never know, but as I also try to live as what Buddha had said, I can also take the teachings of Jesus as a good guide to living.

19. Exactly
There are reasons to consider the historocity of an individual. For example when dealing with individuals trying to use the person as a point of authority to oppress another. Or if you are interested in the truth of things in an objective sense. But social merrit of an idea does not rely on the objective truth behind how the concept arose.

20. That's one of the best ways I have heard to describe it all
See...it all falls in to place. That's a good thing about us here, we can always find a common ground if we communicate.
Ahhh..to be an open minded liberal..lol

You don't need to be a Christian to enjoy it. I'm not Jewish, but I still liked The Pianist.

22. Jesus loved Judas
and his betrayal was necessary for Crucifixion and Resurrection. I love that movie. We used to do the song and dance numbers in school.

11. On the album, the original lead singer for Deep Purple
sang the part of Jesus....

The very first "rock" event I attended was the first concert tour of JCSS. It was great. I have always loved that musical. I think ALW peaked and has been on a downward slide since he bought into the athemic world of power musicals that is destructive and oh so preventalt on Broadway today....

BTW, I'm not gay, not that there's anything wrong with that.....

I like good music though. Yeah, Ian Gillian sang for the Broadway version of Jesus Christ Superstar. I think Webber has written some good stuff and also some crap. this was one of his good ones.
