What's your favorite Indian dish?
Edited on Fri Apr-29-05 07:12 PM by ahem

For me it's Palak (sag) Paneer over basmati

with:
Sweet mango lassi to sip and some samosas with potatoes and peas, onion kulcha (nan bread stuffed with onion), and kheer for dessert (rice pudding!)

(and I haven't even started with the pre-meal nibbles. Maybe some hot pickled carrots with mustard seeds, and some cucumber ra... I better stop. I'm getting hungry.)

1. chana masala
I never met a bean I didn't love, and garbanzos are my favourite.

Yum. Getting hungry now.

2. I love palak paneer and samosas
but give me a hot-from-the-stove puffy puri or some aloo paratha - a flat bread stuffed with spiced peas and potatos. Cucumber raita. Lime pickle and coriander chutney.

I just discovered a nice Indian grocery near us with fabulous frozen flatbreads that you heat in a frying pan, and great frozen meals and low prices. Oh, the spices! Yummmmm.

7. I buy the packaged cheese. As to spicing it up,
it's been purely trial and error. Hubby is damn finicky, I'll tell you.

12. Well, I don't know. I've been thinking....
I don't know if that's quite enough of a basis for marriage. It's definintely enough for a torrid affair, but I think we'd have to come to an accord about boiled peanuts and barbecue ... before we offed your hubby and ran off to Vegas. ;^)

14. boiled peanuts....drooooooool!
and I'm told my barbecue is the finest in FL. I think it's the hefty dose of Jack Daniels in the sauce. Or the peppercorn and sage rubdown. Or the coals and wood.

21. I humbly recommend Penzey's spices for cooking your own
Indian. They have everything you might want, fresh, and even an excellent garam masala (punjabi) that will bring perfection to your saag paneer. They even have black cardamom!

With the vegetarian versions of both in second place, and Korma of any sort in 3rd....

But I'm not picky. If it's Indian, I'll probably eat it and praise it.

Where I live Indian food is everywhere, wonderful, and cheap. There is a delicious vegetarian restaurant I go to, but I couldn't tell you what I eat there because my Punjabi friend always orders for me.

37. ohhh yeah....I love that, also the 9 vegetable curry and the
or the one that is just cauliflower, peas and potatoes.

If I am cooking it, it is lentils because that is the only Indian thing I really know how to fix; my recipe came from a Pakistani friend from years ago.

38. Indian food is the BEST!
My favorite meal in the entire world is:

Chicken Makhani w/ LOTS of extra sauce for dipping bread
Basmati Rice Pilaf
Vegetable Samosas
Naan & Puri breads
Cardamom tea
and Pistachio Ice Cream for dessert!

Don't you just LOVE the sensual scent of Indian spices?! I want to just melt into my chair and sigh with delight after a satisfying Indian dinner. To me, that is the height of culinary indulgence. Mmmmmmm!
