Poll question: Help me make my college decision! (part II)
OK, it's down to the wire. Assuming I don't get off the waiting list at Cornell (as with most waiting lists, chances are slim), I will be attending one of the following universities: DePaul University (Chicago), University of Massachusetts - Amherst or Washington State University. I intend on majoring in computer science. Perhaps some DUers can provide some insight. Don't worry, I won't base my decision wholly on an on-line poll, but I would like to read what DU thinks. So, where should I go to college?

1. Extremely important question: what's your major?
If it's engineering, math, or chemistry, UMass, hands down.

4. Oh definitely UMass.
They have a very good program. I went there for a year. Loved the campus, but they weren't great in my major (Poli Sci).

7. DePaul's CTI is excellent, as well.

3. I'd eliminate Wazzoo ... in the neoconservative boonies.
While the student body might be regarded as middle-of-the-road, it's located in the middle of neocon-nation. DePaul and Amherst are both excellent. I might consider 2 years at Amherst, followed by two years at DePaul. Believe it or not, some variety in colleges attended isn't a bad idea at all.

5. Think about the job possibilities and the nightlife.

Honestly.

You've got to be thinking about where you're going to intern/get your first industry job, and Chicago has a lot more going on than Amherst and WSU.

Also, I went to a school for a year that had ZERO nightlife/social activities/museums/etc., and it SUCKED. After all the studying's done, you don't want to spend your weekends sitting around twiddling your thumbs and watching reruns of Friends.

I pick DePaul, with UMass second. WSU I'd eliminate altogether.

11. Believe me, if you can't find something going on at UMass, you're a zero.
There's no two ways about that.

6. you realize, of course...
...that this is the kind of choice that about mungogunjillian young people would like to have right now.

good luck. i chose UMASS, just because my limited travels in that area make it seem very interesting.

in any case, unless you f*** it up somehow, you'll be find no matter what your choice.
