Poll question: have you ever started a fire by rubbing 2 sticks together?
i've tried quite few times in my Life but never with any success. i began to think it was urban Legend as i couLdn't get some smoke going.

6. yes, but it was hard as hell to do.
just get a f'in match.

you need straw so something will start up - the 2 sticks themselves don't give you good odds.

Yes I am an Eagle Scout and can start fires many different ways.
Prefer the stick and bow method when I don't have matches

10. I dropped out of the scouts at
first class, we never learned that method. Could you explain the procedure? I build fires weekly and it would be fun to learn to light them like that.

9. Yup, but it's hard
Better if you have something like a block of wood, a stick, another stick, and a piece of string. You use one stick and string to spin the other stick on the block, with some kindling down near the spinning point. Still takes a long #$%@# time, though!

23. When I was like 16, I worked at a Go-Kart track
we used to have to stand in a field waiting for kids to crash their go-Karts and then we would straighten them up.
One day I saw a guy who worked there banging stones together and asked him what he was doing. He said he was trying to start a fire to light his cigarette. I informed him I had a lighter on me.
