Poll question: Who yells at the TV?
I just noticed another thread about it. Now, I yell at the TV plenty, just like everyone else in my family does. If the Red Sox are on, I'll give 'em praise and condemnation when they deserve it. When anybody's talking politics, I yell at them. I yell at the weatherman when he makes a stupid mistake. I think a lot of people just talk at the TV. It's pretty much like talking to yourself or thinking out loud.

However, my suitemate here at the dorm thinks it's the weirdest thing he's ever seen. He can't imagine that anyone would talk at the TV. He's always telling me "they can't hear you". That doesn't matter! It's a nice release, I think. I do not know why he's so dumbfounded. He acts like I've got a screw loose every time he sees it, and I think he's genuinely freaked out about it. Why?

I'm tired of his attitude toward my attitude toward those people on TV (whoever they may be). Am I the only one who talks at the TV?

1. yeah I yell at the TV...
Especially when sports are on. I've been known to even give the finger to Shrub or whoever else pisses me off.

In fact I just yelled at Kaz Matsui for dropping a bunt with 2 outs and a runner on third...it's cathartic

2. I usually don't but..
I yell at Bush, and then usually change the channel. (Reagen was the first politician I yelled at. Bush is no. 2, in more ways than one.)
I also yell during baseball games.
Other than that, I'm practically mute!

3. Usually at the media whores: "You lying sack of shit...."
or just "you whore." Not much loud yelling, though. Sports? Meh. Maybe thirty years ago.

5. Nah....
That's not crazy.
Hell, I aggressively debate issues with the television all the time.
Have entire conversations with the dogs.
Verbally remonstrate the CMM at work when it does what I program it to do instead of what I want it to do.
Have arguments with myself and then get pissed when I lose...

....And, I'm perfectly normal.

Personally, I think there's something wrong with your roommate.

8. Carrying on a proud tradition here.....
My wonderful, liberal mother is known throughout our family circle for yelling at the TV when there is political news on. She was especially vocal during the Reagan years. I used to tell her to chill. Now I'm the one who explodes when I hear outrageous lies and propaganda. People know to keep the news off when I'm around if they want to keep everything peaceful and low-key. :)

13. I yell mostly at that fat Moonie fvck Tony Blankley
This weekend's McLaughlin Group might have been an all time highest Completely Divorced From Reality level for Tony. "Downward spiral? WHAT downward spiral?"

Pat B kind of makes faces like he's covering a dog turd, but insists that All Is Well and all Bu$hie needs is a good fight.

Tony bloviates on with his classic Crisis? What crisis? Bu$h is better than ever before!

It was pretty funny when John asked whether the Hitler Youth/Nazi connection was going to hurt Pope Benadryl VIX. Tony couldn't yell "NOOOOOooooo!" fast enough!

Eleanor is getting back to her old feisty self, bit by bit.

And what is it about Clarence Page? He's an excellent columnist, but he comes over on TV as completely blah. Makes Mr. Rogers look hyper.

17. I rarely watch any TV news, so I don't have much reason to yell...
...but I can remember yelling at the screen during the first SOTU speech by * after 9/11, and again once or twice during the 2004 Presidential Debates.

Mostly, I just talk back to the few commercials I see once in a while.

Experts say it's very healthy to talk back to those things; it breaks the semi-hypnotic hold that TV can have on your mind.

:)
