Donatella Versace on cocaine: "I had the best time of my life"
You see, folks...THIS is what the world needs. MORE FUCKING ROLE MODELS.

:puke:

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,154303,00.html

Designer diva Donatella Versace (search) has come clean about the 18-year cocaine habit that nearly killed her — revealing how at first she considered it "just having fun."

"I didn't feel I was addicted," she tells the May issue of Vogue (search).

"Cocaine used to be a lot of fun . . . I had the best time of my life."

The blond fashionista, now 50, says she was 32 when she took her first snort, but initially didn't feel much of anything. "You just feel more awake, more aware. Unfortunately, it doesn't continue like that. So I just kept doing it, every time I was in New York, in Los Angeles, mostly at parties," she says.

2. If she didn't have a dead brother who actually had talent,
not even the five people who care about this would care.

Growing old gracefully isn't her strong point either...

6. Uh... so?
The gist of the article, as I see it, is that she had fun doing blow, and didn't see it as a problem. Part of her not seeing it as a problem was that she had a lot of other personal issues. Sounds like a lot of addicts.

Then she saw it was a problem, and she went straight. Good luck to her, and I hope she stays sober. I don't give a damn, generally speaking, about Donatella Versace. But she got clean. That MAKES her a role model.

I don't understand why someone would disparage someone who had a disease, and then had the strength to sober up. I'm not a cokehead or junkie or any of that, but I AM a nicotine addict, and I don't even have the strength to quit smoking.

I admire Donatella Versace.

8. My honest answer?
I'm torn between admiring her for giving up her 18-year habit, and not admiring her for having that habit...preferring to admire people who never had the habit in the first place.

However, I don't consider myself a sanctimonious asshole...I have no business judging her or what she's done with her life. That's how we ended up with the Bush-Cheney administration...people telling you how you should live your life. I'm not one of those people.

I just think about the people who are out there working for a living, doing their best...and here's Donatella, not caring if they live or die, with an endless amount of money to support the steady stream of blow going up her privileged snout...having "the best time of her life"...and all of a sudden I don't feel like applauding her sobriety.

Just my opinion, and like I said...as honest as I could possibly give you. I respect your opinion too.

9. But there's plenty of people who don't have unlimited money...
...and are still addicted to something. Booze, smokes, hard drugs. Is it a good choice to make? No. Are people responsible for getting themselves into a situation like addiction? Yes.

Still, people make mistakes. The mistakes that you or I have made may not be as far-reaching or acute as addiction to hard drugs. But I don't want anyone judging my life by my fuckups.

10. Yes, I can't imagine ANYONE arguing with the wisdom in that statement.
Show me the man or woman who is proud of EVERYTHING they've done in their life and I will show you a LIAR.

I wouldn't want to be judged by my mistakes, either.

My "gut" is telling me that this woman is a vapid airhead.

My "heart" asks me "If I posted my deepest, darkest secrets from my entire life on DU, how would I want to be judged?"

That's what separates us from the Bush-Frist-DeLay crowd, I guess.

7. Well, it is fun....
In my younger days, I ran with a fast crowd & was occasionallly offered a rail. Or two. It would have been rude to turn it down.

Yes, I enjoyed it! But the next morning, I was having no fun at all. Especially since booze is a great way to calm down from the toot--then you need a bump to come back from the booze....

I factored in the money I would have paid & decided coke was not for me. Seeing what happened to friends who decided otherwise just reinforced my decision.
