4. Piece of free advice...

leave anything "battery operated" at home. If you pack it in your checked luggage the baggage handlers will laugh when your stuff gets picked for a search. And if you put it in your carry-on...well, you really don't want to have THAT conversation with the guys from the TSA. Unless of course you really want a body cavity search.

5. I can do without the body cavity search
I just want to bring something that isn't technically allowed (not a safety concern.) I think it might look like plastic explosives though. (It's not.)

7. The worst that would happen, is that I would have to leave the item
at the airport. It's totally harmless, just not allowed. I might not even try. I might be able to get away with it - I'm one of those people who gets away with stuff. Must be my halo.

9. You'll probably get away with it in Vancouver...
...but Boston is tough with Airport Security (see my thread below). And believe me, I wanted them to just throw it away but it still took 20 minutes til they decided that was the best option.

10. Last time I went through Logan (post 9/11)
I was shocked how lax security was. The security guy actually told me that he wasn't worried about me '...because you're white.'

The item isn't coming back, so no worries.

3. When My Friend and I Were Flying from Lansing, MI to Washington DC
I recommended that they give him a more thorough check because he'd never been on a plane before... I told them that anything involving latex gloves would be real good, but they didn't take me up on that.

8. I got stopped for a cordless curling iron
Edited on Mon Apr-18-05 12:34 PM by LynneSin
which uses propane cylinders. Funny thing is - no one bothered with it when I flew out of Philadelphia; however, in Boston they setup a mini-conference to figure out what to do with the lil propane cylinders that are used with these curling irons. I kept telling them to through the things away but they would just bring more people over to look at it.

Funny thing is, when I got home - my spare curling iron propane cylinder was still in my carry-on luggage.

I suspect that Boston is much more tight about security when you consider that 2 of the planes on 9-11 flew out of Boston.
