I just saw Sin City...and I HATED IT. *spoiler alert*
Edited on Sat Apr-16-05 04:12 AM by fleabert
I walked out. got my $ back.

I have walked out on maybe 3 movies in my life, including this one. I don't have a problem with violence, Pulp Fiction and Kill Bill are two of my fave movies, but this was stupid violent.

I know, I know, it was following the comic...but come on, this was ridiculous. and the nudity, so gratuitious. I am no prude, believe me, but this was so completely offensive, i couldn't stand another minute. I sat in my car for an hour and a half, reading the paper while the rest of my group watched it. I love love love Robert Rodriguez and Tarantino usually, but this is an hour or so of my life I wish I could take back.

I left when the guys legs got cut off.

:puke:

edit to add: my header should read: I saw SOME of Sin City...

7. what was your REAL issue with sin city...
this is america, don't know if you've noticed; but this is one of the most violent nations on earth w/some of the most repressed sexual individuals  to go see a rodriquez/tarantino film and be shocked about the level of display is to certainly show up for the wrong reasons at best.

"i'm shocked, shocked to find out there's gambling going on in here"

9. my REAL issue with Sin City is that
Edited on Sat Apr-16-05 02:34 PM by fleabert
it was overly violent, when it didn't need to be. and it was demeaning to women.

I like tarantino, I like rodrigues. I loved Pulp, 4 rooms, Kill Bill, etc...I am a fan.

I didn't say I was shocked. I said I was offended. And I am also offended by your tone.

edited because I said some things that were really rude, and I don't want to be like that.

4. I would probably agree with you.
For some reason I've been completely underwhelmed with the hype and the trailers for this movie. And yeah, I like sex and violence. The Kill Bill movies were super, and I love yer sexy psycho killer movies like Basic Instinct.

I'm a big movie fan and even though I'm pretty desperate for something good to see, I have no desire to check out Sin City. Hmph. What you posted and a couple other comments that I've seen pretty much seal it for me.

5. It's an absolutely beautiful, yet stupid and hateful, movie
You had every reason to want to walk out on it.

Visually, it is absolutely amazing. It is truly the state of the motion picture art, and Rodriguez is to be loudly congratulated for making it. But the comic-book dialog in the movie is just laughably bad, the stories are weak, the violence in the movie is repellent, and the hatred for women that is displayed throughout the movie is just plain offensive.

I liked it and hated it at the same time.

6. that is a perfect description of the movie!
absolutely hit the nail on the head!

Technically, a feat.

all other aspects of filmaking, shitty.

I doubt I will ever give the comic a read...I meant to before I went to see the movie, but this evening just crept up on me. I was so disgusted by the treatment of the female characters I wanted to vomit, and the violence just put me over the top. I was wavering on leaving, then the legs came off...I leaned over to the dh and said 'see ya in an hour and a half!" I was out so fast I am sure some thought I was really leaving to vomit. too bad too, I was really excited about it. It looked visually stunning in the trailers, and I know how it was filmed. really amazing, technically speaking.

oh well.

10. I know that some did,
can you tell me what you loved about it? Honestly curious, I got my dh's review, he wasn't in love with all of it, just with the process and the film's stylistic result. He thinks I should just accept that it was modeled after the comic and forgive the movie. I am of the opinion that if the comic was anything like the movie, I would have/will hate it too.
