Yep and yep! My wife and i met in a disco. We won a few dance contests over the next year or so. Then, i converted her to the rock thing (the dark side) and started playing in bands again. So, no more disco. We, however, have been together ever since.

26. So Professor, do you still get a sudden urge to Boogie Down
For the most part, I hated disco in its heyday, but as I've gotten older, it's grown on me a bit. Even to the point of admitting the Brothers Gibb were talented, and purchasing a copy of their greatest hits. How about you?

I liked the dancing, but never cared too much for the music. (Some notable exceptions, though.)

The most important thing was meeting my wife, though.

... and I first met at Rock Bottom Brewery on a Thursday night in January 2002, after exchanging emails for a couple weeks.

I asked a waitress if she knew who <insert name> was and she took me right over to his table (he was a regular before detox). He was sitting there looking perplexed over a document he was editing.

4 hours and a few pints later, he walked me to my car, gave me a huge hug, popped on his headphones and headed to the bus stop with a wave.

I knew then. Sigh. :loveya:

44. The back seat of my friend's parents' minivan
Almost 10 years ago...I was 16. But I remember it like it was yesterday.

He hopped into the van and sat down next to me. He had a shaved head except for a mini-mowhawk of three dyed-red spikes on top of his head. He was wearing some old striped button up shirt of his dad's that he had cut up and stuck safety pins all over. He was carrying an armfull of various punk rock records. I was dating someone else at the time, but I was quite taken by him...we "officially" began dating about 6 months later, and we've been together ever since. Finally decided to make it "really" official and got married last year. :-)

45. 32 years ago, I was 17, graduating from HS and dating an absolute jerk,
my hubby was his boss at a store at the other end of the mall where I worked. I glanced up one day and saw him, when jerky boyfriend was yet again chewing me out for something. I remember thinking OMG he's so handsome. Within a few weeks, jerky boyfriend told me he wanted to date someone else, so I said OK. Then his boss and I went out. Boy..you should have heard the phone call I got from the ex-jerky boyfriend.

To make a long story short, hubby and I dated and he wanted to get married right away. That scared me since I'd just turned 18. We broke up for 3 months and found each other again and have been married for 31 yrs on April 29th.

127. I used to go to NEO back then
Started at Octagon down the street, then to NEO, and then to the Exit, before heading back to the burbs...

There used to be a big, muscular, black guy who dressed as a cross between an african wrrior and GI joe, and sometimes had a spear, who danced by himself on one of the big cube risers. Always wondered what his story was...

Knew the bouncer somewhat, Big, real big dude, one of my friends dated him, Kimball, I think.

Once got picked up at NEO by someone with an apartment upstairs. Very convenient.

Did too many drugs in the Womans bathroom there...

Memories...

Were married August 1972. There I'm the senior one on this list.

73. Summer, 1990.
A country and western bar called "The Good Luck Bar and Rodeo." No, really. Not normally my thing but it was that or hang out with my parents, Mr. Drunk and Mrs. Crazy.

I was 19 years old and home for the summer from college. I saw him across the dance floor. He was kind of short, well-built, short haircut, military style. A GI on weekend pass from Ft. Hood.

Tan, almond-shaped green bedroom eyes with long lashes. Roman nose. Full lips and big white teeth. Ruddy cheeks. Forearms the size of Popeye's. Tiny bit of chest hair poking out the top of his shirt. He smelled like candy and earth and skin and me fainting.

His voice was deep and beautiful. He felt like home.

We kissed outside and I got a head rush. Perfect first kiss. No slobber all over my face, we fit just right.

I wrote my phone number on a book of matches he still has.

We went out on our first date a week later. Iraq invaded Kuwait that night...

It was a winters evening...in January. I'd just stepped off the train, nervous as hell...Doug and I were getting along beautifully in emails and phone calls. Of course, we both sent pictures of ourselves, and liked very much what we saw. :-)

But this was when we would meet in person for the first time. I had butterflies in my stomach as I walked off the train. Just...a mild kind of terror. What if...this just didn't work out?

I turned the corner, and there was Doug. Standing there with the nicest smile. Holding up a cardboard sign with "Terry" written on it. I smiled, too...and the butterflies just disappeared right then and there. I knew things would be ok with us. :-)

She liked the way I challenged the teacher about WWII(my grandmother lived through the raid on London, so I had first hand accounts), especially the way I refused to back down when I thought he was wrong, which he was.

We became friends, graduated together, I lost my virginity to her college roommate, I threatened all of her boyfriends I didn't like, finally hooked up 6 years later. The first time neither of us was dating someone else, and whammo!!!!!!! Married now for 8 years, this coming September.

112. I honestly don't remember.
We were first in each others company the day my mother brought me home from the hospital. Waiting to meet her was her best friend and that friend's new daughter.

We grew up together, cottage, camping grade school, university, went our ways, married, etc.

She divorced, I separated, I moved back east and she was living across the street.

That was 20 months ago. 9 months ago it became a lot more than two old friends.

118. In church, believe it or not...March 31, 1983...
To add to the strangeness of the whole matter, my first wife had just left two days earlier. I decided I didn't want to go to Holy Thursday Mass at the same parish where we had been known as a couple, so I went in to the Newman Center at U.W.

For reasons too involved to go into with anyone who doesn't know Latin chant, I got recruited into their music group that night and got introduced to the other members, including Dominique.

I should probably deflate any preconceptions by saying that, as far as I can tell, neither of us made any great impression on the other that night. It was only over the course of the next few weeks that we got to be good (and, eventually, inseparable) friends, and finally took the next step into couple-dom in late August of that year.

129. 10 years ago next month
I had a date with this tall russian blond and we were meeting at 10:00pm at a local dance club called Esoteria here in Milwaukee. The Club was 3 blocks from home, so I walked. It was the Anniversary of the club, so it was packed. The line came out the basement door, up the stairs, and down the block. I got in line and waited.

There were two women and a guy together in front of me. The blonde turned to me and said "Hi" and introduced herself, her fiance, and her best friend, The Redhead(tm). I turned to say hi to her friend and fell instantly in love. Wow! It was all over. I was lost in her eyes. We chatted for 30 minutes in line, and once inside they walked away and were lost in the crowd, and I didn't see them anywhere. Panic set in. I had to find her.

I made my way to a table in the back next to the DJ booth and sat down to wait for my date and scan the crowd for The Redhead. I got up and went to the bar for a drink, as it was faster than finding a waitress, and when I got back, the three of them were sitting at my table and invited me to join them. As it turns out, she was looking for me too. So I sat down and started talking to The Redhead, and two hours later, my date showed up, I told her she was late and had been replaced, and the Redhead and I have been married for 8.5 years now.

138. It was four years ago at a nightclub
called Gotham Citi in New Haven, CT. I was dancing and he was standing against a wall near the D.J. booth. I thought he was so cute so I started to dance all sexy b/c I knew he was looking at me.

I was dancing for awhile and was thinking "Hmm, I want him to come talk to me but he needs to make the first move." I wanted to see if he had the "balls" to approach me. After awhile he came over to me and asked me to dance. He then bought me a beer.

Four years later, we're still together.

Many months into our relationship, he confessed that he would always go to that club and just watch me dance. He thought that I was straight b/c I would always go to that club with my friend Jenn and her and I would dance together and no matter who I'm dancing with, I really get into it.
