do you think tattoos are sexy or unattractive?
i have seen some tats that are really cool. i have also seen some that are so ugly and gaudy. and i think there is a point when a person can have too many tattoos, and too big of a tattoo. but that's just my personal opinion.

i don't have any - yet ... but lately, i have been thinking about it. sort of.

so what about you, do you like them or not?

1. They can be sexy when they are small and there are not a lot of them.
When there is a big one or many, it is too much.

4. Not as sexy as the lack of a tattoo...
Edited on Mon Apr-11-05 07:44 PM by gmoney
The tattoo at the small of the back, or at the bikini line, or wherever is sexy because those areas are VISIBLE, not because of the ink. If you've resisted the fad this long, wait it out another year or two and you'll be so glad you don't have one...

Reminds me of a story a friend told me once... she was in the ladies room at some club and another woman she didn't know out of the blue said "Hey, you want to see the cutest thing ever? I just got this tiny little mouse tattoo." So my friend said, "uh sure." So the stranger undoes her pants a little and pulls aside her panties a little and says, "let's see, where is it?" and pulls them aside a little more, and then says "Ohmigod! My p*ssy must have eaten it!"

THAT'S sexy...

5. Attractive
I find girls with lots of tattoos very sexy. They can be overdone, true, especially if the artist wasn't all that great, but most of the time it they just grab me.

8. I haven't found anything worth permanently marking my body for...
I mean, sure, there are lots of symbols like peace and chaos and buddist symbol for serenity. And sure, I could put a naked lady on my arm. I like naked ladies. Call me an enthuseist, but I don't know, there's just no motivation there...no burning need ya know?

Maybe you should look into something different like scarification, branding, or the new and provocative "exit wounds" where someone shoots you in a non leathal place and each caliber of different bullets leave a differnt wound. Now THAT's cool!...or crazy, which often time go hand in hand.

11. Sorry, I'm a 60 plus years old curmudgeon
When I see a woman with a tattoo my initial thought is "trailer park trash or sex worker" and when I see a man with a tattoo my initial thought is "biker or bosun's mate".

Just a prejudice from my generation.

I've seen some body art, on the right person that I've found sexy.

But then again, I'm more attracted to natural beauty...very little make-up or hair-styling.

But then again, I don't cut my hair, and I rarely shave.

20. Deadly sexy
but it does depend on the ink and the person. It should be something integral to the person who's skin it becomes a part of. Something personal, meaningful, deep - not a trend or a passing fancy but something that truly matters to them. When that is true, when I can see the person in the ink, it doesn't matter if the artistry is good or bad. As a metaphore - think of a prim, proper lady wearing a black leather miniskirt and transparent blouse. Doesn't matter how good she looks in it - it's just not her. She won't feel good in it and that will show.

I have a real mess of a dragon on my chest - very small, but awful. My ex-wife did it when she was learning the trade. It ain't exactly pretty, but it is important to me. I won't have it removed.

Of course, good ink is good art on it's own terms. Sometimes amazing art. But it has to fit the person.

I met this guy. He had memorialized his son's death on his back. In a sense, I fell in love with him when I saw it. Not in a sexual way - he was straight, I'm gay. But when I saw that, I saw deep inside him - what mattered to him, what he loved, what he cared about, how deeply he loved, it wasn't trivial to him, it really mattered. And it was good. And I defy anyone else to not love him as I did. Of course, you don't have to go that far.

But take your time, there's no rush, and it does hurt. So make sure it matters.

Of course, on the other hand, I really get off on black-inked skin on men's bodies with chest hair growing out of it.

So the trivial and profound go hand in hand.

Khash.

22. it depends
on the person and the tatoo. A tatoo would definitely not look good on me, regardless of what it was. Tatoos just don't fit my personality. But on some people, they look awesome.

23. I'm going to have to be boring...
...and say it depends on the person and the tattoo.

I have four of them myself - probably will get another or two someday. The oldest is 14 years old. I've never regretted them or anything; they're part of me now.

It's not something that'll affect my opinion of a person either way. If someone does have 'em, I'm more interested in the design itself and what it means to that person than on where it is on the body or whatever - every good tattoo has a story behind it!

29. The ass tatoo is really popular right now
Some people prefer to call it, in polite company, a "lower back" tatoo. But The Lounge ain't quite polite company, and it ain't on your back, lady -- it's an ass decoration.

Sometimes they look sexy, other times they look like random ink. Depends on the woman, depends on the tat, depends on the mood.

Edited on Mon Apr-11-05 10:12 PM by MrsMatt
I seriously considered getting one 20 years ago as a form of college rebellion (only biker chicks had them). I could never decide where to put it - I wanted it visible, but easy to conceal when job hunting (I guess I was too damn practical to be REALLY rebellious).

If tatoos were edgy 20 years ago, it's pedestrian now.

31. It's a "less is more" type thing to me.
I generally think they are silly, but every now and then, I see something (usually small and placed symetrically on the bod) that I think is sexy.

I'm going to get L O v E tattooed on the knuckles of my right hand, and M O R E L O V E (stacked) on the knuckles of my left hand, should I ever find myself with too much free time on my hands (pardon the pun) and in the presence of a prison tattoo artist.

32. I got one two weeks ago to celebrate turning 50.
I really didn't give any thought to whether it would be attractive to other people; I just did it because I like it. Also, since I do have the occasional senior moment, it's one accessory that I don't have to worry about misplacing.

33. I think they are beautiful if they are well-done.
Especially if they are created with tropical colors. To me, it's just a means of self-expression. For someone to get a tattoo kind of hints that they're a little more daring, a little more self-confident.

37. As I was saying on the piercing thread...
My oldest daughter has hummingbirds and morning glories on her ankle, and three good-sized dolphins (with bubbles) on her side running from her hip to just under her arm. They're quite nice, but the dolphins were just plain funny when she was pregnant. They got fat right along with her. LOL.

38. Another old codger chimes in: (1) it's for dumb sailors too young to
resist peer pressure; (2) it's for streetwalkers; (3) It's a biker gang initiation thingy; (4) it's for young airhead bimbos who think it's sexy; (5) it's also found on people living in trailer parks.

Tatoos contain toxic chemicals. I see it as a form of self-mutilation, IMHO.

I like the skin I was born in. Nothing turns me off to a woman faster than seeing a tatoo on her body.

But that's just me.

I appreciate them for the artistry involved. I have total respect for people who make a thoughtful decision that something is important enough to carry in thier skin for the rest of thier lives.

Like piercings, I have no problem with them, but I don't have any desire to get one. Ahyhow, I'm pretty sure aftermarket modification voids my warranty.
