High School To Pay Student Informants
Edited on Mon Apr-11-05 09:54 AM by matcom
maybe they will give them brown shirts to wear?

<snip>

ROME, Ga. -- A high school is looking for a few good snitches.

Using revenue from its candy and soda sales, Model High School plans to pay up to $100 for information about thefts and drug or gun possession on campus.

"It's not that we feel there are any problems here," said Principal Glenn White. "It's a proactive move for getting information that will help deter any sort of illegal activity."

Under the new policy, a student would receive $10 for information about a theft on campus, $25 or $50 for information about drug possession, and $100 for information about gun possession or other serious felonies.

Informants will not receive the reward if they are involved in the crime, White said.

At nearby Rome High School, there is no similar program because students there have a rapport with officials and are comfortable providing information, said Superintendent Gayland Cooper.

"We feel the reward is the kids knowing they have a safe school," Cooper said.

The idea for the program came from Kell High School in Marietta, an Atlanta suburb. There, student tips earlier this year led to the arrest of a classmate who had brought a handgun to school.

4. Drugs? in the suburbs?
I think not!! Carson and Taylor and Jordan and Palmer don't do DRUGS!!! only ....well you know those people in the city do drugs.

Why are you trying to lower my equity?!??!?!

IN '98 I was living in Baltimore. One of the counties outside of the city commissioned a report on drugs in their community-it found that most petty theft (tools stolen from sheds for instance) in the county was due to heroin use.....only 5 people showed up for the press conference and THREE of them were there to protest that the survey was ever done and that is was made public. They were worried about the equity in their homes.

3. I can't imagine that snitches would last long
The teens would probably seek them out and deal with them. I am not in favor of vigilanteism, but after all, these are high school kids and generally prefer to take care of things on their own.

6. That's great. Get them trained early
and then they can inform on their parents to the Thought Police later.

Do you really need $100 to figure out that having students with guns running around on campus is dangerous and you should alert an adult? I hope not. Yeesh.

8. They had Crime Stoppers in my junior high and high school
I guess this would be the same thing. But I never informed on anyone.
