Poll question: Choice of male celebs: Viggo, Denzel, Jude Law, etc....
Edited on Mon Apr-11-05 03:11 AM by imenja
Whom do you prefer? I'm leaving off Jon Stewart, because it would not be a fair contest with him on there. He's clearly the DU favorite.

Edit: Guys, if you vote it doesn't mean you are gay. Pick whom you most admire, would like to hang out with, or would choose to date your sister.

91. Denzel Washington - simply because he shook my hand when he walked
Edited on Wed Apr-13-05 01:17 AM by Seabiscuit
by me in the audience at after a Tony Bennett concert at Paris-Las Vegas a couple years ago - he has the smoothest hands I've ever felt (besides my baby's). He actually said hello and smiled at me. What a guy!

Otherwise, I can understand the uproar over Viggo - thanks to The Lord Of The Rings. Viggo's cool.

BTW, Tony Bennett is one of the only singers his age who hasn't lost a thing vocally, and who has one of the best if not the best bunch of backup musicians of any singer alive. They were just as amazing as he was.

How about this memorable quote from the movie,

Ruby : They call this war a cloud over the land. But they made the weather and then they stand in the rain and say ‘Shit, it’s raining!’

This guy?

Oh, sorry, that was on the Google Image search when I typed in "Charlie Rose".

You mean this talk show host below, don't you?

Actually, you're right. He is quite, uh, photogenic. I was just a little surprised that he would be on the list. Does he get press coverage for being a sex symbol, does he have a fan club of women like some of those other celebrities?

Edit: Honestly, I'd pick Denzel as the guy I'd most like to hang out with.

I better do my homework before repeating something I heard.

He seemed put out when he couldn't get Viggo Mortensen to shut up about how f*cked it was to go to war in Iraq, but I guess he was just doing his job.

On edit: I just found his bio online and discovered he's from Henderson, NC, as was my birth mom. Probably totally uninteresting to anyone but me, but this is the first time I've ever heard of the place, outside of when I found my birth certificate.

30. Viggo, for sure.
I've lusted after him since "A Perfect Murder." Fell head over heels in love with him when I saw him wearing his "No War for Oil" t-shirt talking trash about the war when he and Peter Jackson (is that right?) were on Charlie Rose's show supposed to be talking about "The Fellowship of the Ring." Charlie Rose is an awesome interviewer, but he could NOT get Viggo back on topic.

65. My problem is that I don't
Really find the actors as interesting and/or attractive as characters. Sure all of those people are handsome, but for me, I need a texture to personality and a texture to emotions, etc. So when I see Jude Law, I think of him as just a handsome guy, no biggie. When I saw him in The Secret of Chrochodiles, that made him sexy. So maybe if we had a list of the most attractive "characters" then I would put down the following:

1). Renton (Ewan McGregor) - Trainspotting
2). Stanely (Brando) - Streetcar Named Desire
3). Daniel (Lothaire Bluteau) - Jesus of Montreal
4). James Ballard (James Spader) - Crash
5). Humbert-Humbert (Jeremy Irons) - Lolita
6). Stephen Flemming (Jeremy Irons) - Damage
7). Van Gogh (Tim Roth) - Vincent & Theo
8). Arthur Rimbaud (Leonardo DiCaprio) - Total Eclipse
9). Margret 'Legs' Sadovsky (Jolie) - Foxfire
10). Lauren Hynde (Shannyn Sossamon) - The Rules of Attraction
11). Syd (Radha Mitchell) - High Art

Okay, so that is a good list of examples. The characters are for one reason or another are attractive to me. Like the desperation of Jeremey Irons in Lolita or the muffled erruption of Jeremy Irons in Damage. Same person, but two different characters. Anyway, that is my list as crazed as it may sound. I am a movie buff, so I eat and drink up this kind of stuff:)

80. Renton's an interesting one
As the film progresses he hangs between hero and anti-hero. When he first goes down to London he does manage to escape and 'save' himself - but then, obviously, returns. Ironically, I do find the film optimistic - when he leaves at the end, I'm definitely rooting for him to make a success of himself.

64. I Voted for Viggo
I read a profile of him at Salon.com last year and he definitely sounds like someone I'd want to hang out with--brainy, multitalented, and definitely liberal.

70. Love me some Brits--Jude and Clive are SO much hotter than the others.
Jude Law is unnaturally good looking and unnaturally charming--I just saw "Alfie" and almost had me a heart attack.

Clive is the first manly man type I've dug.

And both of them have accents, which automatically rates them higher.

Of the two...both are monogamous types ( :loveya: ) and attached. Um... Jude.

76. that's because I never heard of him
and looking at his filmography, I see no reason why I should know who is he.

78. Denzel, Viggo and Charlie Rose
I'm kinda over Jude Law at this point.

Number one though is Vin Deisel - I don't care about his acting, his politics, etc.

As for Jon Stewart... anything I said would get this thread shut down by the moderators. But he just gets better looking with age, doesn't he?

Khash.

84. glad you're on board with Charlie Rose
I wouldn't have included him, knowing he's not likely to receive many votes, but Radical Activist made a point about how absurd I was to include him on my list of favored male celebs in another thread. Evidently I'm not alone in my admiration of Charlie.

85. You and I, my dear
are people of exceptionally good taste. What say we start the Charlie-Rose-Please-Ask-Me-Out-On-A-Date Fan Club? And we can be really snooty and disdainful when Rad walks into the room. Jennifer Connelly my butt! Typical guy! What does he know?

Khash.

86. Out of this list, Charlie Rose.
I like intelligent, but unpretentious men. Viggo's alright, but on my personal chemistry meter, Charlie just hits me more.

93. I don't get Jude Law's appeal either
He's definitely a very pretty person, but doesn't have a masculine sort of quality that some of the others do.
