Computer monitor shutting down
What would the diagnois be when a computer monitor just randomly goes black? The CPU stays on, but the monitor goes dark, and then I have to shut everything down and start all over again. This has now happened three times this week, and I do not want this to become a major problem.

2. Have you recently updated your video driver?

If so, that may be the problem. Delete the driver an reinstall the old one.

On edit: Windows XP allows you to "roll back" the driver to the previous one without reinstalling it.

If you haven't changed drivers, try reinstalling the video driver. It may have become corrupted.

3. Have you been spanking it?
I believe that a little time-out works so much better. :)

4. Double check your screensaver and powersave settings
in your video options.

Make sure that your machine isn't using some kind of powerdown setting to shut itself off after x amount of time.
