The late Bill Hicks
Edited on Thu Apr-07-05 03:59 PM by chickenscratching
I'm posting this because I'm really suprised at the lack of people aware of this amazing man (or maybe I'm just unaware of the plethora of people that are aware)
Bill Hicks could have been such an extreme voice for our day (until he'd get suicided). If you haven't listenened to him before, please go out and do so!
Basically, you could call him a comedian, but it doesn't quite fit. He reminds me of HST because he could give two shits if people got pissed off at him for what he said making him hilarious, but amazingly poignant.
It's unfortunate he passed away in the mid-90's. With what he said in regards to drugs, Reagan, republicans, abortion, pro-life, etc....i just wish i could hear what he would have to say about our situation today...sigh.

I know some people get really turned off by his antics , but his message is pretty fucking awesome.
http://www.billhicks.com/

proofreading this, i know it sounds like bloody 'ell, i really have a hard time saying what i wanna say. i should have just said:
go out and listen to Bill Hicks. here's his website.
i can't waste your time blathering incoherantly. so, i apologize. :freak: <----- moi?

ON EDIT: i know what to call him now, not a comedian, a progressive philosopher

3. He wasn't a comedian, he was a prophet who used comedy

Lots of Bill Hicks fans here on DU!

"I'd like to apologize to any Catholics here tonight. I'm not sorry if I offended you, I'm just sorry you're Catholic."

"Do you think you could stop your rutting until we solve this air/food deal?"

"Some people say these pro-lifers are annoying idiots. Others think they're evil fucks. People, please? Can't we just come together and call them evil annoying idiot fucks?"

question: do you think if he hadn't gotten sick, somone would have offed him by now? (he seemed to be a bit toooo progressive for some, just a bit...it's definitely somthing we could use now)

8. Nah, I don't think anyone would have offed him
But it's hard to say. Overall, he wasn't all that visible. Perhaps over time his popularity would have been enough for "people" to notice it.

But on the other, other hand, he was real big on the JFK conspiracy assassination, so Bush, Sr. might have offed him at some point.

6. I've got a couple of his cd's...amazing stuff
I don't know enough about Lenny Bruce, but I would say he would be put in that type of category. He must be spinning with all that is going on now. He does a great bit about Rush Limbaugh which leads into Barbara Bush's low hanging (male) genitalia. Brilliant!

9. Love Bill Hicks...
I've only seen a couple of his pieces on the DVD but I was blown away. KoolZip turned me on. What's the Bill Hick's CD that everyone says is a must own? I gotta pick up a copy.

Good post, chickenscratching!

10. There are several, but
I'd have to say that my desert island Bill Hicks CD is 'Rant in E-Minor'. Among many others, it contains the aforementioned Rush Limbaugh bit as well as what may be my all-time favorite Bill Hicks rant - 'Gifts of Forgiveness'.

It's his best album, by far.

because hicks would have his show. his libertarian dirty old man waffling would be unneccessary.

mebbe he'd have franken's show, or garafalo's.
