I talked to my stepdad tonight. Remember that job that I didn't get? Well, it turns out that I was #2...I lost it to someone who was fully bilingual, which is what I thought.

Now, for the good news.

It turns out that the employer of the union is looking for somebody now, and they know that the union just made people jump through hoops with the testing and interview process. The guy who interviewed me is going to be calling me in the next couple of days to ask me if he can send my resume to them.

Having been one of those guys who hired people...

We usually grouped people in several categories.

1 - the person we thought was perfect for the job - and who got it.

2 - the people we would really like to hire, but we could only choose one.

3 - not great, not bad. Last choice.

4 - no hopers.

Sounds like you are category two. Someone else got the job, but when another position is open they want you as a serious candidate.

I knew going in that wanted someone bilingual if the computer skills matched. I found out from my stepdad that I made the highest score on the computer tests, so when I didn't get it, I figured it was the Spanish.
