How can you drink beer?
Beer makes me extremely ill if I drink more than one or two- and yet, I see guys (and chicks) downing pitchers of the stuff :puke:
Rum and tequila makes me ill as well.
I just don't get beer...

Openning my mouth and tipping the glass does it.

I couldn't drink much of the carbonated chilled cat's urine which passes for beer much of the time; but give me a proper British beer and I can go for several pints.

6. I'm with you, babe
Beer takes too long and one has to drink too many to get a great buzz. Although I must say I love the taste of most Samuel Adams beers.

But I'll take Scotch whiskey over ice instead any night!

10. The beer bong is for people who fundamentally cannot drink beer
It is a means to inject rather than drink the beer. A drunkard's feeding tube of sorts

It is something I have seen rather often lately. The idea is to drink a (0.5 liter) beer bottle in less than 10 seconds.

So, like the beer bong, a completely waste of perfectly good beer.

Jab a pen-knife in the side of a beer can, place mouth over hole, open pop-top so air pressure forces the beer down your throat. Yum. :scared:

Bottled, good and cheap (€0.30 - €0.40 per bottle):

The few stores still selling cans are usually far more expensive.

34. No, it is a deposit. (€0.25)
It was contemplated in the mid-90s; the law is one of those lovely Kohl relics.

Basically it was cheaper for the stores to stop selling cans than introducing a unified deposit system.

Yeah, Oettinger still can be as cheap as €3.50 a case.

32. I haven't seen it canned for quite some time
Since the introduction of a €0.25 deposit on cans, they have vanished.

And Oettinger is all-German Ziegenpisse. Originally Bavarian, they are brewing the stuff all over the country. My guess is that they are actually recycling horse piss and/or old storages from the soviet occupation army.

9. I agree, the stuff is vile and putrid ...
It affects me exactly the same way it affects you, WindRavenX. It makes me choke and gag, it tastes so awful, and ingesting very small quantities makes me violently physically ill (i.e., worshiping at the porcelain god).

The tolerant side of me wants to take this attitude toward our drinking relatives, friends and colleagues: "Well, some people like apples, some like oranges ... and some like watermelons, cantaloupes, bananas, pears and grapes ... "

But then the judgmental side of me takes over and says, "But the stuff really IS putrid, by definition! What does putrefaction mean? It means vegetable matter ROTTING! And how do they make beer, and wine and hard liquor as well? They allow some vegetable matter to ROT, and then they collect the vile, putrid liquid that is produced by that ROTTING process and that liquid is ... beer, wine and liquor!"

I'm with you, WindRavenX. I just don't get beer, either ... or any other alcoholic beverage. If I live to be 400 million, I never will understand how anybody could actually LIKE the foul stuff.

Ron

11. more than two is too filling for me also
I enjoy it but I have learned that most of the time one glass is my limit, in exceptional circumstances, a second glass or bottle may be consumed.

I do stand amazed at people who can drink entire pitchers. I don't know where they put it. I find too much beer quite bloating.

The conservation movement is a breeding ground of communists
and other subversives. We intend to clean them out,
even if it means rounding up every birdwatcher in the country.

But in my youth I could suck 'em down like water. I counted 19 12-ounce cups at Freshman orientation but who knows how good I was at counting at the time. Regardless, it's still easier to go through a six-pack of beer than a six-pack of cola. :puke:

18. Beer is like food, at least the good stuff is...
It gives you a much slower, longer lasting buzz then the quick rush of most other alcohols.

The taste must be acquired, yes. But the jolliness that goes along with beer drinking, is usually cherished.

37. Beer is good!
Corona and Pacifico and Bell's and Oberon and Leinenkugel's and Alaskan and Midnight Sun and Labatt's Blue and Molson and Pabst Blue Ribbon and various microbrews.

Wheat beer is tasty.

My bro-in-law and I are homebrewing this summer. Should be quite a lot of fun.

I didn't always like beer, but Corona was my starter. It's so smooth, so light, yet so good. But I can't drink it without craving nachos.

Second would be Oberon. Oh my.

Don't drink swill! Beer should have some color, body and flavor.

If your beer experiences include Bud, Miller, and others of that ilk, I can understand your distaste.

Yummy, yummy Guinness, full of nutrients and yumminess. Wonderful live ales full of yumminess. Lots of yumminess in beers, stouts, ales. You have to drink GOOD stuff -- and you can't suck the good stuff down like Coke (Bud Light, anyone?). You actually taste it, 'cause it has taste and a nice solidness to it.

I need a Guinness now. THANKS.

41. Beer. Truly a gift from God(ess)....
www.beeradvocate.com

I've been drinking beer for the better part of 25 years. I can't really see why anyone would not like beer, but I know plenty of people who don't. They'll drink malternatives all day long, or they'll drink "light" beers because they don't want something "heavy" or "dark".

Bollocks, I say. Drink quality, not quantity. Beer is a revered and time-homored drink.

But, each to their own. Drink what you like and don't worry about what other people are drinking or thinking.
