but it's more of how the RRR loves it than anything to do with the actual works of art themselves. I love paintings that pretty much exclude people (Edward Hopper is one of my favorite artists), but it's not so much that he doesn't have people in them, but that there is absolutely no MOOD in any of his work. It's all very lovely little provincial scenes, with a country air, and they're just so "matter-of-fact" that they can't arouse any kind of emotion in me.
Anyone know what I'm talking about when I talk about hotel "painting" sales? They're the kind where you have "hack" artists sitting and drawing pretty much the same scenes over and over and over again, and about once a month in some cities, you go to the loval Holiday Inn or Ramada Inn, and you can buy "original" works of art for "highly discounted" prices. That's the kind of work that Kinkade looks like to me--it's well done, but there is absolutely no soul to the work, and it doesn't even give me enough emotion to care about it.
The way the RRR loves it tells me another thing--they're as stupid as shit when it comes to real art. They would rather elevate someone like Kinkade with no personality in his work, than look at art that has survived through the centuries, like Michelangelo, Da Vinci, and any and all other classic painters, sculptors, or artists in any medium. We know a lto fo them do have decent educations to appreciate historic works, but they must be pretty soulless themselves.
