My first name is 404th most common among US males, with around 31850 (0.026%) of US men named the same. My last name however is "very rare", which is unsurprising considering it is Maori!

If I was to use the Maori version of my first name it would be "very rare" too.

Rare. But I knew that. It's freakishly odd, actually. I was named after my grandmother, who was named for one of her mother's favorite teachers. We're talking an ancient southern name. Aside from my grandmother, I've never known another person with this name. Thankfully, it's not my first name. Sheesh.

>>Richard is the #7 most common male name. 1.703% of men in the US are named Richard. Around 2086175 US men are named Richard.>>

So like one out of every fifty men in the U.S. have my name! I don't feel special anymore... haha

>>Richard is the #1573 most common female name. 0.004% of females in the US are named Richard. Around 5100 US females are named Richard!>>

This stat surprises me, though... are there really over five thousand women named Richard in the U.S.? Not that there's anything wrong w/ that... I'd just figure that'd be a hard name to have to grow up w/ as a female...

FWIW, my middle name "Derwin" didn't even make the list, so I guess I can at least feel unique about that one...

68. Less common than I thought
Sarah is only #23 which isn't bad (I'd like to be slightly unique). I thought it would be higher. It wasn't as common when I was younger, but there was a big surge in Sarahs in the 80's and beyond.

My last name is #650.
My maiden name is #236.

Sarah

78. John may be a common name, but it's a good one which has stood
the test of time. My grandfather was John, as is my father and my brother. My last name may be Irish, but it's not nearly as common. Be proud of your first name, John, it's a venerable one!:hi:

76. My first name is in the top fifteen
(my real first name, that is), and my last name is "very rare," which stands to reason. The Norwegian side of my family adopted it at a family conference, because at the time they came over, Norway still operated under the system that Iceland uses today: your surname is your father's first name plus -sson or -dottir.

The list of most common first names definitely reflects the size of the baby boomer generation. These are the names of my school classmates. In fact, my first name was so common in the baby boomer era that in my sophomore year in college, there were six of us living on one floor of a dorm.

I've never met anyone under thirty with my name, and very few women under forty.

81. Yeah....my Mom got creative...
....after reading a novel while she was pregnant with me called "Forever Amber"..the *naughty* heroine of the tale was named Amber..she liked the name Amber but didn't think Amber Bell sounded right...and added the 'ley'....she'd told me SHE had made up the name...and literally thought she had...since gettin' this 'puter...I Googled Amberley and found out there's a Castle Amberley in England...a breed of race horses named Amberley...and an Austrailian Air Force Base named Amberley...oh and also a Bed and Breakfast in Canada named Amberley....a few years ago I read a short story by Isaac Asimov written in the 50's where there was a male government official named Amberley of Science...I tripped on it as I'd always believed my Momma had been so original!! :D

84. I will bet anyone ONE MILLION DOLLARS...
...that I have the ONLY full name on the PLANET that is mine. Exact spelling, exact hyphenation, name order, EVERYTHING.

I will give you ONE MILLION DOLLARS if you can find another person with my EXACT FULL NAME.

My mother and father's last names are already very rare in their respective countries. Try finding those two hyphenated in proper order. My middle name is a VERY rare Turkish name, and my first name, Ari, is not quite that rare when you look at the whole world, but rare in the US.

and I just might be right about that. My first name had a frequency of .006%, which makes me one in 7650. My last name has a frequency of .0005%, which makes that one of 1250. The two together are not from the same language, which makes me ONE OF A KIND!
