Can you pass the citizenship test? Quizzes here!
Edited on Thu Oct-16-03 10:11 AM by Maeve
Take the quizzes

I scored above average on all but the last Advanced Quiz, getting 100% on most of the first 4--and yes, they tell you what you got wrong.

edited for spelling...twice

1. I couldn't get past the question
"who is president of the United States today?"

They wouldn't let me leave it blank.

3. I got 3 wrong on that first quiz
I mean, since they didn't have Al Gore listed for President I chose the last elected president which is Bill Clinton

And since Bill Clinton was picked for Prez, I gave Al Gore the VP (lieberman was not an option)

And the third one was who elects the president. I'm not sure why I got that one wrong since it was the Supreme Court that elected the last one

4. Quiz #2, question #4 "Who elects Congress"
It was so damn tempting to pick "The Lobbyists".

5. Hey - I did pretty well!
But, thankfully, when I became a citizen, I didn't have to take a test (I was under 16)

6. Those advanced ones are interesting
I actually did as poorly as 60% on two of them.

8. And the advanced ones reveal a right-wing bias
Asking about why Clinton was impeached. No, he did NOT lie to a grand jury (what happened between him & Monica did NOT fit the definition of "sexual relations" given by Jones' lawyers) and therefore did NOT obstruct justice, especially since Jones' suit was THROWN OUT!

Grrrr....

7. I did well, too. Despite these glaringly bad questions:
I got all the basic ones right, except this one:

Question #10
What is the most important right granted to U.S. citizens?

A: The right to vote
B: The right to privacy
C: The right to gather with others
D: Free speech

I said 'Free Speech.' Silly me. Personally, I think all these rights are important. To me, the question seems very subjective.

I also liked this one:

Question #22
What are the two major political parties in the United States?

A: Labor and Republican
B: Democrat and Conservative
C: Republican and Democrat
D: Democrat and Green

Democrat Party???

15. The reason you missed that
is that the others are rights that are given to citizen and non citizen alike.

17. Ah ha! Sneaky bastards!

However, the fact that they are granted to all is immaterial; the question was which was 'most important.' Logically, all four are granted to citizens (the remaining three are granted to non-citizens, too), therefore the question of which is 'most important' is still subjective. I maintain that free speech is more important than the right to vote--in my opinion.

On edit: I think you hit the nail on the head as to what they were driving at. It's unfortunate that it was worded poorly.

19. I agree with you, FlashHarry.
"Most important" is highly subjective, and has no place in a test like this.

If the point was to enumerate the right granted ONLY to citizens, then it should have been phrased differently.

10. I agree. The questions were poorly worded.
I got 100% on the last three advanced quizzes.

11. Let's see
Quiz 1: 100%
Quiz 2: 100%
Quiz 3: 96% - missed the naturalization form, never needed to know
Quiz 4: 100%
Advanced Quiz 1: 80% -note it drops to 5 questions, I missed one
Advanced Quiz 2: 100%
Advanced Quiz 3: 80%
Advanced Quiz 4: 100%
Advanced Quiz 5: 100%

That said, some of these I don't understrand the relevance (what does the UN do? What ship did the pilgrims come over on?) and others I know to be half-truths but went with the generally accepted mythcial answer about our heritage.

18. Didn't have time to take the advanced quizzes

But I got 100% on Quiz 1, and only had one wrong on the subsequent three. Not bad, if I do say so myself!
