ok. so his last CD sucked and I can live without the
Eagles songs with just a few exceptions but the Henley
of the 80s was awesome:

The Boys of Summer
Sunset Grille
The End of the Innocence
The Heart of the Matter

I am now officially pissed!!

2. Have you listened to The End of the Innocence lately?

Written during the 80s at the time of the Iran Contra scandal,
he railed against Reagan as the "tired old man that we elected
king"

The song sounds just as painfully direct and valid now as it
did then.

3. I really liked "For My Wedding"
Off Inside Job; it turned me onto Larry John McNally, who was a helluva songwriter...

4. Yeah, I was a little harsh

That's a great song. And there are others:

I really love "Everything is Different Now," and "My Thanksgiving."

I just didn't think it came anywhere close to Building the Perfect
Beast or The End of the Innocence.

But having said that, I take lesser Henley over most of the
other garbage and crap that passes for music nowadays.

6. Did you ever hear "A Month Of Sundays"
About the old farmer, and the agricultural industry is being taken over by conglomerates, ruining his world and business, and he misses his wife so bad.

That song is an ignored masterpiece.

7. Yep

Haunting tune.

I think that entire album is a masterpiece.

8. Here are the lyrics
The music as as good as "Desperado," in my opinion.

I used to work for Harvester
I used to use my hands
I used to make the tractors and the combines
That plowed and harvested this great land

Now I see my handiwork on the block
Everywhere I turn
And I see the clouds 'cross the weathered faces
And I watch the harvest burn

I quit the plant in '57
I Had some time for farmin' then
Banks back then was lendin' money
The banker was the farmer's friend

And I've seen dog days and dusty days;
Late spring snow and early fall sleet;
I've held the leather reins in my hands
And felt the soft ground under my feet

Between the hot dry weather and the taxes
And the Cold War it's been hard to make ends meet
But I always kept the clothes on our backs;
I always put the shoes on our feet

My grandson, he comes home from college
He says, "We get the government we deserve."
My son-in-law just shakes his head and says,
"That little punk, he never had to serve."

And I sit here in the shadow of the suburbs
And look out across these empty fields
I sit here in earshot of the bypass and all night
I listen to the rushin'of the wheels

The big boys, they all got computers;
Got incorporated, too
Me, I just know how to raise things
That was all I ever knew

Now, it all comes down to numbers
Now I'm glad that I have quit
Folks these days just don't do nothin'
Simply for the love of it

I went into town on the Fourth of July
Watched 'em parade past the Union Jack
Watched 'em break out the brass and beat on the drum
One step forward and two steps back

And I saw a sign on Easy Street, said
"Be Prepared to Stop."
Pray for the independent, little man
I don't see next year's crop

And I sit here on the back porch in the twilight
And I hear the crickets hum
I sit and watch the lightning in the distance
But the showers never come

I sit here and listen to the wind blow
I sit here and rub my hands
I sit here and listen to the clock strike
And I wonder when I'll see my companion again

5. Ouch. His music must have declined markedly if it's now hospitalizing
people. :o

It's hard not to appreciate someone who'd duet on a song about themselves and their dire need to find swift demise.

10. Afterwards, Mojo said, "Maybe I'll have to change it to Phil Collins"
or so I'm told

11. I'd suggest Michael Bolton
But that goes without saying.

I'd also switch him with Michael J. as the anti-Elvis.

It is so true nowadays.

Dirty Laundry

I make my living off the evening news
Just give me something-something I can use
People love it when you lose,
They love dirty laundry
Well, I coulda been an actor, but I wound up here
I just have to look good, I don’t have to be clear
Come and whisper in my ear
Give us dirty laundry
Kick ’em when they’re up
Kick ’em when they’re down
Kick ’em when they’re up
Kick ’em when they’re down
Kick ’em when they’re up
Kick ’em when they’re down
Kick ’em when they’re up
Kick ’em all around
We got the bubble-headed-bleach-blonde who
Comes on at five
She can tell you ’bout the plane crash with a gleam
In her eye
It’s interesting when people die-
Give us dirty laundry
Can we film the operation?
Is the head dead yet?
You know, the boys in the newsroom got a
Running bet
Get the widow on the set!
We need dirty laundry
You don’t really need to find out what’s going on
You don’t really want to know just how far it’s gone
Just leave well enough alone
Eat your dirty laundry
Kick ’em when they’re up
Kick ’em when they’re down
Kick ’em when they’re up
Kick ’em when they’re down
Kick ’em when they’re up
Kick ’em when they’re down
Kick ’em when they’re stiff
Kick ’em all around
Dirty little secrets
Dirty little lies
We got our dirty little fingers in everybody’s pie
We love to cut you down to size
We love dirty laundry
We can do the innuendo
We can dance and sing
When it’s said and done we haven’t told you a thing
We all know that crap is king
Give us dirty laundry!

Now, Joe Walsh - that's another story completely.
